how could you ask this your car is a sohc and you wanna convert it to dohc wow you really are a noob to think you could line the cyliners with the head

now I suppose that question has not been posted but half a dozen times as opposed to "hey my cousin's brother's neighbor's ex wifes lesbian lover's dad says he can put a b20 head on a A20 , how do I go about doing mine?
On the contrary though just because the block is sohc does not mean you can't put a dohc head on it. Just look at the D16. I am sure the A20 can be made dohc but it would take a ground up build from scratch casting of a special head plus all the other details of cam timing, fluid flow, etc.. No body has stepped up likely because of lack of $$$ motivation. I have wondered if you could use an undrilled, cut B18 Dart head casting (one of the few aftermarket Honda performance head producers) as a start.
.... but really now. That inquiry sounds kinda like "How do I put a Ford super cobra jet 428 head on my small block chevy. Boy that bowtie would be a beast but super complicated to say the least. What logically would be the point if you had an H22 to begin with?![]()
this has been discussed and the only thing holding back a b head is some bolt holes and a couple oil returns
your best bet for performance is gona be eather turbo or b swap till then be happy with the gas price the way they are lol
converting to a h22 head would prolly cost about the same as doing a b swap if it were doable
sorry to say it but you bought the wrong car for easy performance we have i,h,e,c thats about it lol

you might get your hands on a adj cam gear in the market place along with some other rare things
but nothign that will most likely rock your socks

Even if you had all the money in the world a H22 head or H23 head will never ever fit an A20A3/4 or any of it's cousins. The bore spacing on H22/23 is bigger so it just aint gonna happen ever ever ever in a ever million years!! And by time you might your car would have rusted away and oil would have disappeared and we'll all be using fuel cells and electric motors. Now that is what you could do put a fuel cell in and two electric motors on each of the front wheels job done!!
Your best leaving it alone save some money up then decide if you want to modify what you have or swap in a B20A if you want a newer current engine like H22 or B16/18 then get your self a newer car that can swap one of these into. I have a fast A20 engine and with the weight of my car it has insane power to weight ratio but this has come at a price of a alot of R&D and some choice mods, it also consumes fuel like big old American V8!! So don't expect anythin more than 20-25mpg crusing at 60-70mph on the highway and if you stick your foot down say hello to 5mpg or less sometimes!! You can literally see the gauge drop in real time!!

The H22 head will not fit. You need to get a head from an inline 6 BMW engine, thats a direct swap.

Someone should build an A20 and put the cam in the block and drive the valves off pushrods using a V8 cylinder head. That would be sweet!

Which car did he do this too though?? Most likely a civic or 3G prelude their the only two engines i know that have DOHC brothers the rest are pretty incompatible. Anyway DOHC isn't the be all and end all!! Sometimes it's an advantage to have a SOHC and less valves less parts to wear out and replace as well as less parts to move creating less rotational frictional losses!! Any engine can be made to go fast you just have to know what to do to it!! And i was being nice :O)
