Second time it has done this.

Ok so I fixed (I think) a vacuum problem yesterday and ran the car until the engine was up to temp. It was running really fast and I had tryed tapping the gas to bring it down but i needed my keys to unlock a shed so I turned off the engine. I then tryed starting it again a few minutes later and it wouldn't start. It cranked fine but it didn't seam like it was getting any fuel. I checked all of the fuses and i tryed disconecting the battery for five minutes or so but that didn't work. I let it sit for half a hour or a hour and tryed starting it and this time it worked but i had to keep my foot on the gas for a second or two. anyone know what happened? our dad had the same thing happen to him one time on the way home from work. he stopped at a store but when he tryed starting the car it wouldn't start for awhile. what has to be done to fix this? also the engine was running between 2,500rpm and 3,000rpm when i turned it off.

did you reset the idle after the vac leak?
the not restarting sounds like the main relay.
