What is the air vent cut off diaphram?

I noticed this wasn't included in the removing the vacuum lines diagram, and I was wondering if it is important. It's a little round thing on the right side of the carb right above the thermovalve with a vacuum line coming off of it. Would I suffer any ill effects if I just unplug it?

No answers, but looks like I figured it out on my own...something to do with the charcoal canister. Yay diagrams.

Good work My theory is, pull it and see if it still runs and drives. If so, you're golden.
