    Red face Driving Technique

    Hi Savvy 3GEE'RZ!

I have an 87 DX auto tranny. I was wondering about the D4,D3 modes of operation. I drive about 80 miles a day in my DX. I get heavy traffic on my way home (405 FWY SO.CAL/no hills). I noticed that the car is "hunting" through gears. In heavy traffic would it be better to stay on D4 or run it in D3? I was reviewing the owners manual but I would like a second opinion. Thanks in advance!
    87 DX/210,XXX Miles.

If the speeds are staying low id say trhow it in D3...then that way its not shifting into 4th for no reason.

if it is hunting excessivley the TV cable is likely out of adjustment or hanging. You should be able to drive 60 mph in "fifth" which is D4 in converter lock up. Unless there is a large grade.

d3 for intown 45 and under or you always, stoping and going. if your 55 and higher d4 since you have the extra gear to save gas. if not your tranny going to end up taking a shit from shifting like crazy.
