Digital gauges finally installed in my 2.0i-16

I've been putting this off to install them because I still needed the fuel level unit for the gas tank, but because my stock gauges didnt work with OBD1 i decided to go ahead and mount them afterall. (to those in doubt btw I can just add that the 6k resistor speed sensor mod for OBD1 works perfect, the datalogging reads out almost excactly the same speed as the dash)
The way I installed them I didnt have to cut one single wire in the stock wiring harness and I didnt make any modifications to the stock dash either.

Taking the gauge apart to get the mileage clock out.

Rewinding the ol' ticker to match the cars actual mileage.

Spaghetti I had to do a shit load of wiring to avoid cutting any wires in the car.

Test fitting on a spare dash. I built everything using this dash. Made it alot easier, and that way it didnt take long to put it in the car either.

    How it looks all done.

These last three pics are for epic1400cs (or anyone else that reads japanese), so if you read this can you translate what the text in the dash says? ...my japanese is not so good

A reeeally shitty video of the whole thing in action. Made even shittier from googles video compression... oh well...

Dude that is HOT! Does the wiring colors match up for the original gauges over to those gauges? I bought a set of digital gauges for my car and I'm dying to install them. I need a different fuel level sender as well? Did you have a wiring diagram for both of these?

EDIT: OH I found the howto, proceed to slap me around a bit.

Oh and what is the symbol below the "Door Lock", to the left of "Check Engine"?

Re: Digital gauges finally installed in my 2.0i-16

Alot of colors match but there's also several wires with the same colors so it doesnt really work that way. In a 3rd gen at least, I dont know about the 2nd gen. On top of that there's a bunch of new wires you have to add.

I dont know if you need another fuel level unit for your 2nd gen, but I think with the 1st gen CRX digital gauges they didnt anything different.

I have no idea what that symbol means, it's connected with a small circuitry on the back of the gauges but I couldnt figure out what it was for and it lit up when I powered up the gauges so I just took out the bulb. Silly japanese people making all sorts of warning lights...
If anyone knows what it means please tell.

Well spotted. Thats because the gauge cover is from a RHD car. Normally they would be located the opposite way.

Very cool... thats a nice looking display... A lot nicer than lots of other 80's cars with digital guages, especially ugly nissans.

With the stock gauges you cant use the speed sensor output to the ecu. It wont work. You have to use the speed pulser output that goes to the cruise control unit with the 6k ohm resistor.

I posted that in the other ecm options thread. Did you try that or no?

Regardless the digital dash is so unique. Good job!

Reminds me of Knight Rider. lol

I know, but if your accord didnt come with cruise control the gauges doesnt have any output for the crusie control. Hence the reason I wanted to put in these since they do have this output. Now I have it working with the 6k resistor so it's all good.
Yea, It's Knight Rider, RoboCop and 80's at it's best

    Wow, thats wonderful!
    Here are the translation..

'Time Passed' - I guess, you can set starting time when you start your journey and measure how long it took.

'Consumed Fuel' - Also, you can set certain start point and the micro computer calculate the amount of fuel you consumed in 'Liters'.

'Avarage Speed' - no need to explain. In Km/h

I think this part is so called 'trip counter' or 'trip computer'.
If I can help further, please let me know.

    Aw dude you suck :p

I have the3 gauges here but I just can't find the other parts I'm missing (the gauge cover and the little ECU)

By any luck, do you have some extra of these? :p

i just realized that that the whole piece around the steering wheel must be JDM because the regular dash doesn't have that spot for the indicators and buttons

so it's reversed because it came from a RHD car.. at least that's my guess

btw greatdane.. i think yours is probably my favorite 3g on here.. especially now with these gauges

    Awesome.

I've been waiting for you to get this done ever since I nominated you for AOM.

This is something that no one else has done on 3geez AFAIK.

It's really refreshing, because I'm tired of all the ghetto taillight threads.

    Props Marthin.

    Peace.
