Re: Believed extinct - now revealed in this extraordinary amateur video!!

I have tried all kinds of things over the years, silicone, dry teflon, oil, and grease. Mine still works, but probably because it has not been cycled that much over the car's life. The ones that go up and down every time you start and shut down the car are the ones that seem to wear out. The best thing I have found is detail spray. Just keep it really clean and it seems to work.

i don't know why you'd want an automatic antenna...i like the ability to hit a switch that allows me to adjust antenna height. i mean, i've got a Jack In the Crack ball on the top of my antenna with no problem with reception. i'd find it annoying to have those automatic antenna, especially when you start up and hear, "...click, click, click, click..."

One of mine works... sort of. I have 2 new honda antennas I got off ebay for $28. Don't really feel motivated to put them on though.

Mine works for the most part. there's a slight bend toward the top, so it doesn't go all the way in.

Be warned that you have to want it pretty bad to get it done. I ended up loosening the fuse box to get a little more working room. I tied two strings to the new mast. One for the antenna wire and one for the plastic extender coil. You have to feed them both evenly through the pillar or the whole thing hangs up. I don't remember how I got the plastic coil back into the motor or the retaining clip, but some eighth order yoga and a lot of swearing are necessary ingredients.

I've been lucky so far, both the 88 and 89 antenna's work fine (knock on wood)

I thought I jinxed myself after posting in this thread, my motor would just click and the antenna wasn't moving for a couple days... turns out it was just frozen. Still going strong after 21 years.
