A20A3 head on a1

I just changed the valve stem seals on my A1, and the thing still puts out a crazy thick smoke screen in the morning. I just wanted to make sure there wouldn't be any problems putting the head from the 87 A3 on jack stands in the driveway on my A1. I know the distributor has an extra bolt, but from what I understand, it should still mate up.

Yeah it will work fine. I ran an A3 on my A1 for a while.

I think you can take that top mount off both heads. The A3 has the one on top and the A1 doesn't, and it just unbolts if I remember right.

Check the distributor mount before you put the A3 head on. The upper bolt on the A1 distributor may not line up with either of the upper holes on the A3 head. You'll probably have to swap the upper mount, which if I remember right means you have to uproot the entire rocker arm assembly. Not a huge deal but something to be aware of.
