What power steering line? We don't need no stinking power steering lines. Power steering is for wimps.
Maybe wrap the steering line instead of the header?

Yeah, looks like rust to me. That wasn't the ceramic coated version was it? If for some reason the car is running rich it's possible an exhaust backfire could have blown it out if it was already in a weakened state.

well i'm going to be running aeroquip PS line, so it's a lot more heat resistant then the factory, plus you can put firebraid over it. I also have a bracket to hold the line well above the exaust.

    Re: Pacesetter Explosion

Not the ceramic coated version. I just gave it a couple of good coats of that high temp ceramic containing paint, but I think the wrap just rubbed it all off after a year or two. I think if heat retention was the problem, the number 4 pipe wouldn't have exploded quite so dramatically. The 2 only has hairline cracks, the 3 is pretty severely cracked, but the 4 is nearly completely gone.

I think after all the input, it was probably running rich and the pipes had started to corrode because of the wrap. Then there was some sort of back fire and they exploded like little pipe bombs...

I'm pretty sure I'm just going to cut the thing up and use it on my new 87 accord. No point in wasting some perfectly good flanges.

The header must be pretty damn old for corrosion to eat it away.

Header has been on there for maybe 5 years now. It exploded a little over a year ago.
