    Question Quick flywheel bolt question

I'm planning on switching my rear main seal next weekend and want to make sure I have everything before I start. What size are the eight 12-point bolts that attach the flywheel to the crankshaft? My metric socket sets are all 6-point.

    Is it 12mm or 14mm?

17mm, 12pt. And be ready for a fight; they don't come off easy!

thats putting it lightly. i attempted to remove my flywheel and gave up. My impact didnt do a damn thing to loosen them up. You gotta find some way to hold the flywheel so you can use a LONG breaker bar on it.

NX, did you have the engine out? I tried getting it from under the car, but gave up. I'll be pulling my engine in the next couple of days, and maybe it will be easier then. If all else fails, I'll haul it over to my buddies house and use his impact.

yeah, the engine was out when i tried it. You have to rig up something to hold the flywheel from turning or have a REALLY strong impact. Mine's kind of a cheapo so that was the biggest reason why i couldnt get it undone.

18 months ago, when I completed this repair, I used a 17 mm 12-point socket and an air impact wrench. Why dig this old thread up?

Because, just like me, someone may do a search to find out this very thing. I hate searching for something, and finding threads that ask a question, but then don't have the answer. Dig?
