    I think its the little roles.. I don't think shoulder straps where required there at the time.

    ahh yes that makes perfect sense. now that I think about it, i remember reading that they installed the shoulder type belts when the cars where imported to NZ, hence why I found it odd seeing them without them. now I know why all the rear seat belts in my jdm accords looked hory. oh well, back on topic lol

    Same reason why our 1986 hatchbacks have seatbelts on the b-pillar but 1987-1989 have them on the door.
