haha...nice backfire there. backfire is no big thang anymore. i use to be like OMG someone just backfired! but now i could care less. my rx7 backfires fairly often when its still warming up....love it......

that was pretty sweet! i used to own a 1975 toyota corrolla. that thing had an exhaust leak right next to the gas tank. it also had a fuel leak. id be goin down the highway in the dark, step on the clutch and booooom! id look over and a huge fireball went out the side. it was so bad one time it caused a three car pileup, i just kept goin. i also had a nissan pickup with no exhaust whatsoever not even a manifold! it melted the firewall in two days and sent me to the hospital for 3rd degree burns

it's not backfire, it's afterfire. there's a difference. just fyi.
3geez for life.
dude, steve flames outta the tail of a rx-7 is not soo good , ive been rebuilding liek 3 13b and the next is gonna be a j-spec for my friends 88 rx-7 dude the backfire, or afterfire while the car is running or after the engine runs WOT seriously fucks up the apex seals we got a racening beat hedder and test pipe and cat back system and after i tuned the first two engines he never back fired liek that if anything jsut a lil when first started with the choke on
any way even on a gen 1 rx-7 u shoudl still use like 4 ounces of premix in the take to prevent major wear of the apex seals
as for honda engines i dunno what can happend with that i never rebuilt one like that
all i nkow is alot about gen 2 and 3 rx-7 and G-body american cars ( hope to add hondas to the list too)
flames aren't bad usually...sometimes i guess they could be, but more than 80% of Rx-7 owners have backfire. i only have it when its cold and the choke on. but with wide open throttle i have no backfire. i've seen pics and videos of ppl flaming at idle with an rx-7 and its no big deal. its just cuz the exhaust piping isn't the correct material and it heats up so it heats up the left over gas in the exhaust and ignites once it hits oxygen...really no big deal. all of my knowledge has to do with 12a's tho so maybe ur right on a 13b.

yea it might sound cool, but backfire isn't good, it's killing my power and mpg. Afterfire is fun since it's just caused by that extra spark plug and unburnt fuel.

well steve ur right about 80%-90 % of rx-7 owners after fire , and yes ur right about the hedder getting too hot. i really havent looked into the 12b engines that are in the gen 1's but the engine concept is the same for the gen 2's , cuz now i finished the 4th engine ( the j spec) and i added diffrent ring gears (b/c my friend likes reving the shit outaa it and the stock ring gears warp too easily and crack) and i reprogrammed it and "advanced" the spark so that it stops backfireing after warm up , but usually at warm up it aint bad for a 12b or a 13b. but dude lookinto the premixing i def. noticed a diffrence between the second and third engine i built soo mutch less wear on the apex seals ( think of it as a 2-stroke kinda setup) but im not shure if its a good idea on a 12 b engine to premix
