LSD for 3rd gen Accord ............YES???

Well guys a long time ago I sent out a differential to Quaife LSD's to see if anything they made was the same as the Accord diff. Well the person I had sent it too shortly after got terminated and I never recieved a response from them. About a week ago I received a call from someone at quaife asking if I still was looking because it had been sitting at this persons desk for over a year with all my info still attached. I said sure why not. They told me they had a new model called the wavetrac lsd and they were going to check that one. Well the next day they called me and said they had verified that it was the same size as the B16 diff. Same bearing size, same spline axles, but the only thing different was the speedo gear so that would need to be swapped out.

Now understand they i cannot verify this as my transmission was put back together long ago. If the people over there are as skilled as they should be then it should be ok.

If anyone chooses to go this route ask for Ryan at the autotech contact numbers site. Tell them Dennis with the old 87 Accord had sent in a diff to be compared and they they said it would bolt up and only a swap of the ring gear is needed.




Another thing is that this might mean that any B16 lsd from any company would fit, not just theirs. Again I cannot verify this so please plan accordingly. I know not many people on this site would need or spend the money on this thing but like always.... I pass around the good info.

good job dennis! is there a difference between the hydro and cable b16s? if not then you should be able to use an OEM type-R diff as well

It is the same diferential in the 86-89 tegs so yeah it should be good.

I dont know much about the b16 trannies but being there not listed as hydro or cable on their site they are probably the same.

It would have been nice if I would have had that info a year and a half agon when the tranny was apart and out of the car. Unless something breaks or I feel like getting my brother in law to drop it again I probably wont be using one.

they list on their site for like 790 but you could probably get it somewhere else cheaper.

Only nice thing is that its off the shelf. No waiting while you send in a diff to get modded.

And all i did was put my new JDM B20A bearings on it and the speed sensor gear and dropped it right in with no issues!

And all i did was put my new JDM B20A bearings on it and the speed sensor gear and dropped it right in with no issues!

I always new there was something out there that interchanged. How is the speedo gear attached, just pressed on?

it's just held in with a clip ring, but i think you might have to pull the bearing first to get to it.

Its just pressed on and it was an easy swap out with the right tools of course. I would not recommend doing it for less experienced people but overall the hardest part is getting the clip that hold the bell housing in place off and back on again.

Quaife LSD is one of the best. This in itself lends me to work with an A20 and not go B or H22 route. There expensive but well made.

LSD i can confirm it works there was a Honda enthusiast who built a 3rd gen civic called Kakkbox for autocross custom everything the guy was a machining god!! He dropped a D16 from a teg into it like the JDM cars had and after some research he found that yes the 99-00 Civic SI B16 LSD does fit but depending on which brand LSD you may need to get your dremel out and file a bit of the inside of the casing down to clear the bolt heads on the LSD. This was done with out issue, he also noted not to go with the cheaper brand LSD's but spend the money and buy the more expensive Quaife or similar brands you pays for what you get kinda attitude as i think he had stuffed a cheaper one up quite easily. So yes will fit Teg box and Accord box plus late 2nd gen lude boxes early ones are maybe a no no.

Sorry to dig this thread up from the grave, but for clarification, this would mean that the final drive gears from B16A's, A20's, B20A's and B18B's should all go in without any problems?
