Ok one intake manifold support is nearly done, this SU manifold is a very long piece,only a few inches off of the firewall. I needed some kind of supports to prevent the welds from cracking. the pieces of this started off as a quad front end I dragged out of a dumpster. got the entire front end including the tie rod ends,the tie rods, bearings,etc. and the tie rod end brackets. the other stuff i'll save for something else later. the other parts included some steel tubing,one speherical ball end, and some other off ball junk parts.

I can't use the standard carb support brackets in any way, they just won't work at all.
first piece,this is the motor mount off of the back of the block, It now has a doubler plated welded to part of it, this made the metal thick enough to add threads.
this is part of the quad tie rod mounting bracket,it's a forged piece, I drilled two holes in it, and cut off the end
this is the rod from the manifold bottom mounting point, to the tie rod end at the motor mount bracket. it's a lot longer then it needs to be at the moment, the outer tube slips into the inner tube, when i figure out the proper length, i will cut off the excess length, mark the two pieces and weld them together. the carb end is a spherical ball end.
motor mount is in primer at the moment.
how this works,with the ball joint on one end, if nothing were connected to the other end, the entire rod could be swung in a 360 degree arc,with the ball joint being the center. but there is a spherical rod end at the manifold bottom. since the tie rod mounting point is fixed, and the manifold can't move forward or backwards being bolted to the engine, the only movement would be up and down,however, in order for that to be able to happen, the tie rod would have to be able to swing in an arc,since the opposite mounting point can't move forward or backward, this makes the tie rod act like a torsion spring,resisting up and down movement.
