    a20a3 build up

Hey guys, i'm pulling the engine from my spare parts car and going to put a fresh rebuild on it, a nice re-ground cam, and get some head work done on it too.
Is there a certain rebuild that is as good as stock, if not better?

Thanks, and look here for pics the next couple of weeks.

What exactly do you mean by a certain rebuild? Do you mean are there certain parts that are better than others?

Ok, say you had to rebuild an a20 for yourself. What pistons, rings, rods, bearings, ect. would you guys personally put in it for performance?

I spent a little over 1000.00 for my rebuild, and that was just to have the block bored out, head work and parts.
I think a few members here have gone with the Topline engine kits for their rebuilds.

Looks like you're going to be going with stock rods and pistons then.

Went with Napa for the rebuild on my '82. No regrets there. The parts were all tip-top.

Only thing about the topline kits is they have the lower compression A20A1 pistons.

    Re: a20a3 build up

Erm don't know where you heard they were good but from my experience and from the guy's at PP.com Topline and rock auto parts are cheap and nasty and not reliable!!

Do yourself a favour and stick with what i suggest and you can't go wrong!

    Honda pistons A20A3/4 oversized
    Sealed power rings or honda
    ACL bearings
Felpro Engine gasket kit top and bottom
    New oil pump
New water pump (preferably the cast impeller type not pressed steel)
Engine should be blueprinted for best power output this would include correct tolerences on clearances on bearings, and ring end gaps, and piston to bore clearance as well as full engine balance incluing the flywheel and complete clutch and the pulley for the belts.

And that should hold you in good stead my friend! Oh tip on the rebuild make sure you use a little gasket sealant around the corners of the front of the engine as they tend to leak oil otherwise as the holes are the oil return holes for the head.
