    exhaust heat shield really needed?

I had a custom short shifter made and it doesnt clear the heat shield under the ball. Im wondering since the car barely gets driven, is it really that important. i dont see the heat portion even coming into play as much as a debris shield or factor of that use. I dont drive on dirt roads, the car is imaculatly maintained and always garaged. Id only remove the u shapoe up front and 2 bolts the rest would still be used but not under the shifter rod heading towards the engine and trans. Mike

If you have good silicone wires its helps with the heat from the header.

Your passengers' feet may get warm, but it's not strictly necessary. I've taken them out of a few cars and never had a problem.

My mistake. In cold weather you won't miss it. In the heat of the summer, your A/C will struggle even harder to keep your interior cabin cool.

yeah the whole floor of my coupe gets hot when in traffic but if you are cruising its not a problem only when you stop and the heat has no where to go but into the floor pan....i would just bang out the heat shield to the shifter clears

I don't think I've seen anyone do it before, but you could try heat wrapping the exhaust under where the shield would've been. It really doesn't get too hot even without the shield in there, but if it gets annoying that's one idea.

what I did was I put some heat insulation under the carpet where the heatshield area was and it seemed to help you dont need much and its pretty easy to shape it as well
