My antenna only goes down half-way...

...then it stops and starts to click. It goes all the way out, though...

    Any ideas?

try lubricating the mast to see if that helps.
if not than you will need to replace the mast assembly

Lubricated the lower half (outer layer of metal) of the mast and it goes all the way up and down by itself! yeee

What did you use? Mine does the same thing, but if I push it a little bit it will go all the way down. I though of using WD-40 or similar...
If it ain't broke... I fix it!

You can lube it and Scotch brite it to get off the crap from the elements if it is sticking from gunk on the actual antenna itself.

Don't use too much of anything that can attract dust and dirt. I had the best results just keeping it really clean with the occasional use of a detailing spray, which has a very light wax in it. Ultimately, the plastic drive cable broke during one of our less than common cold snaps a couple of years ago. I was so tired of keeping the thing working for 20+ years that I "treated" myself and replaced it with a manual antenna. While mine always worked, it would often stick and had to be aided to reach full extension. These types of antennas are, thankfully, not in use anymore.

Re: My antenna only goes down half-way...

Now that I have an OEM type manual antenna I just leave it up all the time. I did look at various types of thin wire antennas that stuck to the inside of the windshield or other types that mounted under the dash. Ultimately, it was easier to go with an OEM type.
