    I Degrade to A20 from B20.. need input thx..

    Hi folks, Well, the story goes like that.

    I both me new Accord with B20a2 in it, car is all original.
    then, after 950mil the timing belt snaps, bending valves and what not, dont sure yet, before I take it apart.
    Now I'm with out car again. but.

    I have this old 3Gee with A20a4 in it, well kept and strong engine in it but not certified for road use. and I have this new accord witch is road certified but with out working engine, you see the dilemma here?

    So I decided to swap A20 in this new car for the time being, until I overhaul B20.

    and this is where help comes in, what needs to be swapped and rewired?

    any input would be appreciated.. Thanks

    Well I got her home from my girlfriends place with hers lill 1.3L suzuki lol.. but we made it.




    unhooked her, and I sail downheel, because its a stupid driveway up to the house.

    Just yank out the B20A2 together with the black box and then you should be able to throw the A20A4 and its corresponding blackbox back in without doing anything else. You can even run it on the B20A2 ecu if you want to.

    But if one car is 86-87 and the other is 88-89 you have to change the front mount also.

    Cant think of anything else at the moment. Should be straight forward.

    Oh man I raced one of those Suzuki's once. It pwned me hard, but it was a 1.8 DOHC. Girls always own those too. I am pretty sure as long as you're staying EFI, you can bolt all the B20A computer stuff onto it. Only problem might be the distributor as far as I know. Nothing a little snipping and soldering can't do. :-P I would think the B20A computer could run the A20 just fine.

    I see, thanks. I will get around in a few day in to doing this swap, so basically you saing that all vital components to run A20 is in a black box then?
    Well, good news for me, both cars are 86-87 so. Dont need any other rewiring then?, because one member here said to me that B20 use cylinder sensor so Dizzy have 2 plugs rather 1 in A20.

    Yea, I was trying to convince my GF to buy 1.8 DOHC engine from the states and swap it over. I believe those were only in 1.8GT Hutch models. rare stuff, alltho they used the same engine in US GEO Metro models, same engine and same trans and all.. If I'm not mistaken Geo were build on Swift chassis.

    the a20a4 shit should plug right in and work both motors are vacuum advance.. no electronic ignition

    Its ok to degrade..... back when i got my 2nd accord it had a b20 with a blown head gasket i checked a temporary a20a2 carb engine in and thrashed around on it for a year.

    yep geo metro and suzuki swift are the same. i had a 94 metro hatchback with the little G10L 1.0L 3cylinder , car was damn peppy for only having 55HP , id like to pick up another one of theses days and do the DOHC swap

    It will swap right in. Since you're in Europe and your B20A has vacuum advance (like Aaron said) everything will work fine.

    I don't know if you're tight on cash or anything but it's kind of a pain to "degrade" just to have the car running.

    It might not cost much more to have the B20A head rebuilt.

    yea, tell me about, I finally got me an B20 and now this, no no no :P, but yes youre right, I'm tight on cash, I just have so to say to pay my rent and bills. and for insurance and such. not for rebuild at the moment. Thats why I'm doing it.

    You could use the B20A2 blackbox on the A20A4 if you wanted, it's just a lot easier to leave the blackbox connected to the engine.
    And there is also one extra solenoid in the B20A2 blacbox, which is used to control the secondary air valve (the one with the big vacuum hose going to the blackbox).

    No wiring work is necessary, the only thing you should check is if the wire colors are the same in the connectors for the B20 and A20 blackbox. The B20 blackbox is going to have 1 extra wire but that dont matter. The extra wire is just used for the extra solenoid.
