    Coilover help?

alright guys.. the 3g im looking at has coilovers but whats wierd about them is that the bottom of the coilover rests on the cup looking part of the bottom of the stock strut.. when the car is lifted the coilover comes out of the cup looking part.. idk if its called a sleeve/cup.. something... but they are all just resting on it.. is it supposed to be like mounted on the cup thing or can i just get it welded?

oh ok... does the spring get completely relieved? like when you lift the tire off the ground? cuz when i lift the car up the spring gets completely relieved and it has like 2 inches of play between the end of the spring and the resting point on the coilover.... would it be good to just weld the coilover to the cup?

interesting. Got a pic (even if it's just a crappy phone pic)? I'm thinking the R1's that were sold on ebay for quite a while. Is there any printing on the springs that could give any indication as to their maker or rates? If not, it's still not the end of the world, we should be able to figure out the approximate spring rate with some simple measurements.
