Altrom is a big parts supplier that makes replacement parts for tons of cars. Sealed Power is owned by Federal Mogul which also makes replacement parts for tons of cars. Either brand will be fine.

Re: what brand of rod bearings does 3geez use?

I wasn't especially impressed with the bearings from Altrom for my 22R. Even though the crank was within spec, the bearings plastigaged out at .002" clearance on the rods, and at .0025-.003" on the mains. The rods should have had .001-.0015 and the mains about .001. According to the automotive machinist I was dealing with, the aftermarket makes the clearances sloppy so they don't have to hold as high a production tolerance, and still avoid having a "tight" bearing.

well if your having problems passing smog defiantly do a compression test... if she has a knock there is a chance the compression is low and if the compression is low she wont pass smog..

well for sure i know the knock is from the rods.. but for the emissions.. my timing is at 28 degrees advanced... thats why they wont pass me.. i gotta bring it down to 15+/- 2

mabe you had defective parts or the crank was ground prior to you owning it?

Interesting. I wouldn't be surprised in the least if aftermarket bearings were looser than Honda specs. FWIW I used Toga bearings during my rebuild and they gauged out fine. The crank checked out ok at the shop too. But that's why we use plastigauge at all, to make sure the final clearances are what we think they will be.

I thought our timing was supposed to be set at 26 degrees or something like that. Why do you have to set your timing at 15 degrees?
Lostforawhile:we have to pick on him he's CAH he spray painted himself into this corner with the accord.

It depends on whether it's carbed or fuel injected. Carbed engines are supposed to be 22 +-2 BTDC. FI engines are I think 15 +-2. These are measured with the vacuum advance connected and the engine fully warmed up.

gotcha. Thanks for clearing that up. It's been awhile since I've actually set my timing with a gun. Usually I just redneck tune it. Advance it till it pings then scale it back a bit.
