You should only have problems at idle if the PCV is installed and clogged. If it is out of the circuit, it shouldn't affect idle nor acceleration.
But, as someone mentioned earlier, the PCV or "Positive Crankcase Ventilation" valve "absorbs" the blow by gases inside the engine and burn it by conduction to the intake manifold.
The reason to do so, is to disallow those gases to be around the engine block as they will eventually condense in a low pH liquid or acid, that will rapidly corrode the engine.
So, you get it out or not, you better have a good PCV installed and working in the mean time.
Cheers,
Rick
it's not a breather, it's an oil separator, it lets the oil vapor picked up in the pcv condense back out, it runs back into the block and back down the oil drain valley from the head. there's a pickup at the bottom from the pan, a fitting pushed into the block on the back side, and the outlet to the pcv valve hose. the pcv system is very important as it keeps condensates out of the oil and keeps your oil nice and clean, if it wasn't there your oil would look like tar in no time. It's the only emissions system I would add to a car.
