Thread: Rebuild Auto or used manual?

Unhappy Rebuild Auto or used manual?

I found an Si tranny at a wrecker but they want $400 for it and I know someone that can completely rebuild my auto for $350 including a new torque converter. Here's the deal... right now i can't be fucking around with a mystery trans, if it breaks I'm S.O.L. cuz I'm not 100% sure my job is going to go through.

Should I rebuild my tranny for $350 with guaranteed work and save my $ to do the swap and get an aluminum flywheel and ACT clutch later or take my chances with the Lude trans and go through converting to manual? Maybe I can sell my rebuilt auto to someone here for about the same price cuz if I get this job I'm definately going to be able to afford it.

rebuild the auto. try to sell it, i am not sure if SEi auto had diff gear ratio. that would be nice to find out.
and get lude or SEI 5 speed trans with all the goodies.
which one has closer gear ratio lude or SEi 5 speed?

$350 for a full rebuild and new tc. That sounds too good to be true. Honda 5speeds are quite durable, but $400 is rediculous. I could get one and ship it to you for less then that (note: shipping is about $150-200 and I'm not willing to do it due to past bad expierences). Keep looking around, you'll find a better deal.

There's a 3g Accord manual tranny on ebay. Would work to get you by for awile at least

There's also an 89 Lude Si manual tranny, but I don't think that would work (2g only, right?)

$350 meant I would have to remove the trans myself
I'm getting the full service for $550 tomorrow

Thats still cheap. With a new tc, full serve, I'd expect close to $1000.
