    taking out the head unit in my lx

    does anyone know the details on taking out the head unit? theres this thick black that goes somewhere...???

    6000k HID Conversion Kit
    Strobe Light Kit in City Light Housing
    Clear Corner Signal Lamps
    Tinted Bumper Signal Lamps
    Hyper-White Reverse Lamps

    pull hard

    i just put two big screws through the front and pulled hard. disconnected the battery first tho. if u want to keep it, then i dontt know what to do! SORRY

    im trying to get the unit out... but there is this wire that runs from the back of it.. into somewhere. and it won't come off the back of the unit... i need help!!

    The thick black wire is your antenna lead. It should pull straight out of the deck. I take it that you've already removed the two screws at the back, bottom of the deck.

    Yep, that sounds like your antenna lead. If this is a stock head unit, and if yours is anything like mine was, then the antenna cable plugs in to a short little cable coming out of the back of the unit. It should have a little cylinder shaped plug connecting the two wires, and you just pull the two wires apart at that point. Mine were a little tough to get apart...

    True dat, except there is NO cable lead for the antenna; it plugs RIGHT into the back of the radio. Yup yup.

    Oops, yeah, I think he's right. As I said, there was a cable lead on mine, but I have an 89lxi, and it looks like the 86 factory radio is different.

    You most likely had a factory eq?? and the antenna.

    I would get a harness... it's easier to swap in other decks if you ever decide to, and you don’t have to cut your wires. Besides, they're pretty cheap.
