finally got something done, the dash that's going in the car is sitting on a rolling cart in my living room, been trying to figure out the linkage stuff for the chokes on the SU's, I have the nice aluminum pull knob from the aircraft, but the cable is too short to reach the firewall, i ended up making a nice bell crank, out of aluminum, this allows the choke cable to pull sideways, and exerts a pulling motion out from the firewall. there is another lever that attaches to this, but it's not on in these pictures. I had to figure the correct angle first. my making the choke cable pull for a small distance, and the lever that pulls the choke linkage rod longer,it allows me to give up force for a greater pull distance on the rod.

here is the actual bell crank minus the one lever,the rod end on here is for the choke cable from the dash, this mounts behind the glove box lower bracing



here you can see the welded reinforcing on the glovebox brace.
this is all in the fitting stage right now

i have to get out there and install this in the existing dash,so i can see how long the choke linkage rod has to be.

ok almost done, i have to install this with the existing dash so i can figure the length of the pull rod. We decided if we are ever going to finish this car,it's going to be one piece finished at a time, so we are working on the dash, once it's totally finished and painted, it gets installed, while it's out the heater core gets installed. this way i won't be working on 50 projects at a time. everything under it is finished, now i need to finish it and install it.

Ok how this works, when the choke knob is pulled out, it pulls on the bell crank through a spherical rod end, this causes the bell crank to turn, this causes the other lever to rotate, another rod end attaches to the choke pull rod, when this rod is pulled back, it pulls on a spring loaded bolt at the firewall pulling it back, this bolt pulls the choke cable in the engine compartment. all aircraft quality stuff, so no slop or play at all, everything fits nicely under the glovebox area.

priced small universal joints, 75 bucks? figuring how to make my own from a socket one. needed to go from the choke pull rod to where it connects at the firewall. I think some parts and some welding will solve the problem.

OK this is how it works,also made my own U joint today from a 1/4 drive u joint and some machined parts welded to it. the rod in this video goes to the ujoint at the firewall and attaches to the piece that pulls the choke cable.

i have that piece on the other dash,have to put it in the car to locate the pull rod, and figure the rest of it out from under the hood

ok everything will clear,just clears the power antenna motor under the blower area, anyone know if the bracket for the evap canister is spot welded on,or does it unbolt? needs to come off I need to move it anyway,but it's in the way of the choke pull rod.

yep all that and it's hid under the glovebox support,can't see it at all. figuring out the issues with the other cable attached to it which pulls the choke cable. too tired to do much tonight,just got home.

well i made some of the bracketry to tie the cables together, and have the cables made,my drill press is torn up so it will have to wait.

took a few fuzzy pictures working on my choke linkage in the garage, camera is dying, common software glitch in this model. saw black widows,recluses, wolf spiders, huntsman spiders, daddy long legs and about ten spiders i've never seen before, probably snuck across the border. linkage is almost finished works good so far.

I fixed my big house ventilator fan, it's been modified to stand on it's own, thats the only reason i've been able to stand to work out there at all. the fan was a freebee when i helped tear down a small house from the seventies. it was still in the window, works fine. have a 36 inch high velocity industrial fan from work thats broke,going to fix it and mount it in the loft in the eve vent, pull the hot air right out of the place,

it really isn't the crap on a factory carb would give someone a migraine in 5 minutes.

ok I think I fixed the camera still see some bad spots along the edges,but much better. Micromesh is wonderful stuff.

you can see where the two cables will connect over the valve cover,once i get both fitted, that bracket will get finished up,probably powdercoated black



how the choke cable connects to it, i have another clamp to put in so the cable loops around the oil filler.


this is the bell crank under the dash, you can see how with a sideways pull the cable pulls out from the firewall.




the cable at the firewall doesn't actually hit the power antenna motor, the bracket that holds the bottom of the motor is off in the picture,so the motor is leaned over.
