Red face blacked out headlight accents

hey guys! I recently did an experimental detail to my 3gee.. just thought I' share. here's some pics..

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------

Yeah, I know she needs a minty paint-job, but that's next week.. But, if you like the look.. all it takes is some painter's tape, an exacto knife, a can of flat (or gloss) spray paint, and a sunny day. But remember not to paint the sections that get illuminated by the lamps, which turns your car into an illegal but still cool-looking 3gee Have fun..

i gotta do my window trim next the original black coating chipped off.. I think im either going gun-metal gray or gloss black for the new paint-job coming up. But the thing is, Im doing it myself. The gun-metal gray look will be sorta hard to recreate. haha. but regardless.. flat black trimming and such looks good with either color.

yeah.. i think, on your car, you don't have to. Looks good how it is. It's just a personal preference i suppose.

Putting on my exhaust today.. replacing the rusted out gasket and the worn rubber hangers. i started her up yesterday as soon as i pulled the old exhaust off (hole, inspection) and she sounded like she had full 3" straights on her. I took a lap 'roun the hood just for good measure

theres really no blinker located were he blacked it out so all he coverd if he did paint it were the parking lights wich were as bright as a little tikes flash light lol

but your work looks good keep it up

..P.s.... 86accord you need to align that front headlight bucket lol

    Re: blacked out headlight accents

Haha seriously dude. Its not that hard. The thing seems like its even on both sides anyway, unlike mine... i can align it with the parking light but not the hood..
That reminds me! are there two diffrent kinds of head light motors? On my car theres the ones with the little rubber cover you can remove and turn the motor to lift the light.. but on that 89 EX-i im lookin into, they didnt have any such feature.. Are there after market budjet ones or what?

    Re: blacked out headlight accents

Hahaha! Yeah I know it's not a time-consuming or difficult thing to do, usually.. But I primered and painted the spots so it took me a little longer with most likely "more durable" results than simply masking and painting.. I also finished repainting the trim around the windows and such. I'll post pics tomorrow.

But, to give a little insight on your dilemma.. On my car ('89 LX-i).. There are two "knobs?" under the hood, with pull-off caps, that you can use to manually turn the headlights up and down by twisting.. If that's what you're talking about?

    -OR-

That model could just not come with the manual adjusters..

    -OR-

They could be there just not visible. When I helped my friend replace the motor on his '00 Firebird, the said knobs were down about 5-6 inches behind the headlight casing.

Hmm. I found the motors, and the nobs were on the motors on my car.. I guess ill go back and take a pic. Instead of the lil rubber, there was this big plastic thing that didnt seem to come off. Kinda threw me off. I was gunna lift the lights...

Yupp that's them.. The caps are sometimes a little difficult to get off for some reason.. At least mine were at first. And try to turn the knob, with the light down.. Turn it like you would I you were putting it down.. Do it for teh lulz.

Alright, i guess ill try again monday. It was just way diffrent from the lil rubber caps... Odd. Did they realy change the head light motors? I wonder why..

Speakin' of the lights being not bright.. is there a way to fix that? I mean in the day, with the sun bright up in that there sky, its like my blinkers aint even on. Not safe much?!

The orange turn signal or the little parking light I chose to mask off that youre talking ab00t? In either case, the bulb / lamp can easily be replaced with a newer, "more illuminating" one, if you so choose. Or if it's the actual housing, you may need to do some sanding to clear the fogginess.

I am painting the entire car atm.. got the hood, front bumper, fenders, and front quarter panels all sanded and primed today. Trying to get completely primed tomorrow if weather permits. And yes, the trim is getting redone in flat black.

"Which looks better.." on what? If you're talking about the accents and trim, I think for me, Flat Black is the better choice.. Unless you are going for more of a "minty-clean" (more for show) look.. then gloss is the way to go. But the flat black, to me, goes with the car. That's purely my opinion.
