my question is can i take the turn signals from the 88-89 and put them on my 87 hatch back ? so in turn this will give me the clear lens if anyone has done this please tell me what kind of mods i would have to do . thanks

Not sure at all, but i'm gonna guess that you can't...think the size is diff...(don't hold me to that one, i have no clue...I'ma go find out..)
No they wont fit. You need to swap the whole 88-89 bumper in order for them to fit in the slots. I dont know the exact problems of why they wont fit but its something to do with the shape and the mounting positions.

Nate is right, the mounting for the bumper lights is completely different. The 86-87 have screws in the front through the lens that hold it on. The 88-89 have one screw underneath the bumper. You have to go through the slits in those pop out covers past the styrofoam and loosen the screw. Then they pop right out.
