'88 integra....tempted

A neighbor has a 5-speed 1.6DOHC 3dr he doesn't need; He listed it on Ebay for $300 & didn't get a bid.
Not pretty since he sanded off half the paint thinking of painting it since previous owners had replaced a headlamp & frt guard, while bonnet & rear 1/4 window still need replacement otherwise it appears rust-free & straight. He'd paid $300 for it needing a gearbox which he's replaced along with a new clutch while engines 270,000 km old.
I have long been tempted to find a dead one for an alternative DOHC injected drivetrain for my '79 Accord or '81 Prelude (which might be easier), or waiting until B18 options become more affordable, or even an injected A20 which might have a more torquey character/gearing closer to the 1.6l Accords original willing & flexible if a little underpowered character.
I doubt I'd find one cheaper especially since I wouldn't have to pay to drag it home.

Though being sentimental about killing cars (& curious about Integra) I'd probably end up trying to fix it in spite of too many other projects.
What do people think?

If you plan to keep it, I'd say consider a paint job as part of the asking price. A reasonably decent paint job is going to bump the cost north of $1,000. Might be worth it though if you like the car. If all you want is a drivetrain, you'll look a long time for a decent tranny for $300. All the rest is gravy.

get it! take it's motor out, fab mounts to put in your accord.

then fab mounts to put a sohc d16, or buy hasport mounts for a b to put in the integra.

It would be pretty cool in the '79. It's already pretty customized with the 4x100 conversion and shaved moldings. I think a DOHC (non-vtax) engine would be pretty cool in it. Keep in mind the front crossmember issue. You might have to fab something up. Pretty much the same with the 1g Prelude though. You've got another 1g or two don't ya? So it's not like you wouldn't have one sweet all original one and one sweet (and tastefully, if I do say so myself) modified one.

Well I finally said yes to it after much to & fro-ing... though he wanted $350. Spending $180 at a wrecker for 1g prelude frt seats, windscreen, wheel-trim-rings & chrome mirrors, reminded me that it is cheap.
(Found an entire box of not-great-quality new-old-stock aftermarket mirrors that are nearly identical to '79-81 Honda RH exterior mirrors)

Though as said I don't need another project so It will be sitting around for a while before I do anything with it. Despite the fact I'm still waiting for an ex-housemate to drag-away his boat project to make reasonable room for it (he moved out more than 2 years ago!).

I can still think about its potentialities though.

Though I must admit that despite their many parallels to my Accord hatch somehow the early Integras have never moved me.

Could do with a new drivetrain (though I'd prefer torquier B18)


My 2nd 1g Prelude
could be turned into the sporty-car it never really was with a relatively powerful -revvy engine, & as an impractical coupe "toy" car a relative lack of torque shouldn't matter so much


Prelude would seem easier for engine conversion than Accord since it has no front cross-member in the way of a forward-exiting exhaust.
Ironically Prelude was based upon an enlarged 2g Civic while Integra was based upon an enlarged 3g Civic.

In either case Integra D16A3 offers 120hp/90Kw @ 6500rpm & 140Nm@5500rpm
vs EL 80hp/59Kw @ 5300 & 126Nm @ 3500

Though according to some figures the Alloy D16 could be 20-30Kg lighter than Iron-blocked EL.

At ~930kg Accord & Prelude both seem lighter than 960~1040kg Integra even with their heavy engines!
