    spam

I have been seeing a lot of spam on the forum lately. Since it's been so long since I signed up, I'm not 100% on what the process is. Do we use Captchas (or however that's spelled)? Are there any other sort of means to catch spammers before they post? I have been reporting them whenever I see them and it's handled VERY quickly for a forum. I would rather not have to see the spam, so I wish we could take care of it before it happens.

So, what's going on to prevent spam? Is there anything on the drawing board that might be implemented or will be implemented in the future? I'd really like to know.

We do use Catchpa (pretty sure im wrong too), but some of these forum bots are capable of getting past these. Really not too terribly much they can do.

Yeah, it's C.A.P.T.C.H.A. (Completely Automated Public Turing test to tell Computers and Humans Apart). Does 3geez.com do the email authorization?

I know that we use reporting, but the grassrootsmotorsports.com forums use a code word that they've set up to make spam easier to find. Not sure if that would help, but you never know. They use the word "canoe" for the code word. Would this make things easier for the staff?

I noticed when the spam bots post it shows zero posts, if they were signing up like a member they woul show a post wouldn't they? is that a clue as to how they are getting in? could they be getting in the site disguised as a googlebot or something? what about an alert for specific words, like Viagra or laveitra or however you spell it? usually it's some sort of pharmaceutical product. how often do real members ever use those terms? I know some sites when you enter the code there's an explanation below it that says to enter it backwards. that would seem to be effective as a machine wouldn't understand that.

as that does help with makeing the links that the spambots put up not work it still means there are spambots here and they can still post just non of there content will work. wouldnt it be easyer just to find a better way to block them before they even get on to the site?

most sites have this setup this way, no way to block them they have gotten super sophisticated, normally if they can't post a link, they will move on. doesn't take long to get five posts.

But, will they know they have to get that far to get there? How will a bot read the thread stating the rules?

the idea is a bot can't read the rules, people can read that you need five posts before putting up pictures or links. lots of site do that now.
