Question What do you guys usually pay for running and complete nonrunning 3rd gens?

I'm having a hard time with some local prices. Generally for a nonrunning or barely running 3rd gen I can get them for $100-300. And from $500-$800 running. Here's my dilema. I've been wanting a 2 door and I have found these:

1988 Accord appears pretty nice runs great with 200k, $1200 obo. This is the car I've been searching for with exception of the paint. I'd rather have it in the blue. But it's a 5spd that's a plus.

I cannot get either person to come off their price. So tell me what do you guys usually pay for a 3rd gen?
1989 Accord mileage unknown body damage and runs rough, $400. It's a 2 door that's the only thing I can see that's going for it. It's an automatic

Can you afford the $1200, can you wait them out. The longer the cars stays listed the easier it is to negotiate a lower price. If you want it now, you'll have to meet their price.

The value of anything, is only what someone is willing to pay.

Depends on what type a mechanic you are. Noob (It will take you longer to fix it) moderate (Part-time mechanic, just not the right tools) Experienced ( nothing that you find wrong will take you long to fix) Just need the cash to fix it right.

200,000 is not alot for these, if the reciepts for care can be verified, or you can evaluate the condition of the engine, supension and electrical.

I can wait them out. Both cars have been listed over a month. I offered $800 and $300 respectively. I will probably end up with the $400 car. He's the only one playing ball right now. He told me $500 and I've managed to get him to $395 random figure. My guess is that if I go wave $300-350 in his face he'll take it. I can fix anything that's wrong with it. I have everything to do the 5spd swap minus a good tranny. That's not a big deal. You're right about the value being what someone will pay. Myself, I will not pay more than $800-900 for a good running 3rd gen with little to no body damage, unless it's documented and it's had work done to it. Don't get me wrong there are plenty of members here that have 3rd gens that I'd give a few grand for.

Economics 101 right there lol. The 1200 dollar one is NOT what i would be willing to pay. The interior of that car is just ...yuck. The other one is admittedly pretty banged up, but 400 dollars for a running car is NOT bad.

Paid $400 for mine, it only needed a new cam and gear and the interior was a little ratty, but everything was in pretty good shape (you know as well as a $400 car would be)

In West Virginia, a barely-running, carbureted Accord with a beat body and rust will get from $300 to $500. A running car and in decent shape (not nearly as nice as the burgundy coupe up there) would be at least $1500. If that car was being advertised for that price here, I'd buy it in a second. I don't get why the rest of the country gets cars so cheap. This place fucking sucks.

Not saying you should immediately put yourself in debt to grab that, but I don't think $1200 is bad at all.

id get the $400 one u have just about all the parts to fix the damage and 5speed swap is really not that bad and you know if it needs anything you only paid $400 for it... where the other one if it needs something you spent $1200 on it allready lol

I wouldn't get too hung up on the purchase price. It pales in comparison to what you spend on it after you fall in love with it.

Re: What do you guys usually pay for running and complete nonrunning 3rd gens?

I'd hold out for the $1200 one. The body is much cleaner, and it's a 5 speed. I'd pay asking price for it without hesitation, as long as it ran as good as it looks. The only interior issues I see are the seat bolster foam is worn on the seat bottom, and the carpet needs cleaning.

I payed $350 for one with its transmission in the trunk. Didn't come with wheels, either. Maaco paint is suck, too. Good 25-foot car, though. I had the parts to fix it, and the car came with a lot of parts, so right now for a running car, I'm about $400 deep. Once I get tires, I'll be worse off, but still workable. It all comes down to how much work you're willing to put into the car. If I had it to do over again, I'd spend more on a better car than less on a car I already had parts for.

And that's from a guy that's had 3 3geez with issues that were less than $550.

    I paid $900 for a one-owner, perfect condition, perfectly running, rust-free coupe. $300 for a four-owner, okay condition, non-running, 0.01% rusted coupe. Both 5-speed.

around here 3geez in good condition are listed on CL from $1000 to $2000

    in shitty condition, below $1000

honestly, i would hold out until you find one that meets every spec you have.. don't waste your money on one if you dont like something about it because all of them are about the same price
