    88 Accord LXi Problems.

Was looking for some insight on a couple problems I'm having, I'll try to keep it short. I think I have an oil leak, because for the last week or so I've been seeing blue smoke coming out of the exhaust. I also hear this weird rattling whenever I get into gear that only lasts a couple seconds, but will come back if I push the engine hard. I think I have a power steering fluid leak too, lol. Any ideas? Thanks for the help everyone!

Sounds like your engine is blown. What happened that it started doing this?

Blue smoke usually means blown piston rings... And the knocking sound is most likely a rod knock.. Or valves...

You want to confirm that the engine is indeed blown before spending a bunch of money on it. A compression test should tell you a lot. You also want to confirm that the knocking noise is engine bearings and not pinging or a loose manifold shroud or something. Here are a couple links to get you started on that.

Are you able to post a video of the noise?

I suggest you check the cooling system for air by opening the bleeder valve on the engine with heater open and engine fully warmed up. Look for air bubbles coming out the valve and continue this until no more bubbles appear and then close the valve. This video may be helpful: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zUpXg...eature=related. I suggest putting a pan under the car to capture coolant dripping down during the bleeding procedure.
