    Talking Haps's 1989 Accord SE-i [Pictures Up!] No 56k

[Scroll Down for the new Pictures.]

    Hey guys,

Long story short, I needed a car, as my current (96 Volvo 850 Turbo) was becoming far to expensive to maintain... I'm going back to school in September, so I had to find something quickly and on the cheap...

Saw her on Kijiji- Single elderly owner, ~250,000km, manual, loaded apart from fog lights, kept indoors and rustchecked all its life, and brand new tires. He (the grandson of the owner) was asking $1199...

Shitty pictures... I'll get some good ones later, It's dark and raining out right now...

It has some rust bubbles under the filler cap door, and some other surface rust popping up in various places, but overall the body is extremely solid (especially considering they salt the roads here...).

The maintenance book has been filled from 1989 to 1999 (when they ran out of space...)

There was no free play in the clutch at all when I brought it home; easy fix. Stereo only works intermittently, seems to need to warm up for a half an hour, then only the front right speaker works. Wait a little longer, and a rear speaker works. No clue what's wrong; any help would be appreciated. Hopefully it's just the headunit and not a wiring issue... No A/C either. Unsure why.

Takin' her on a 300km trip tomorrow, and another 300km Sunday. Hopefully all goes well.

The heat shield on the exhaust manifold is held on with a piece of wire and rattles... is it advisable to leave this on, or can I just take it off and not worry about it?

Also; I tried searching, but what's the best solution for mounting foglights in the stock position?

    More pictures to come.

Welcome to the board! Your car is a beauty. I'm anxious to see more pics.

If you still have the stock head unit, it might just be plain wore out. You can probably replace it with a good deck from the store for cheaper than repairing it.

I would leave the heat shield on the exhaust manifold. It gets real hot and you have AC and PS fluid hoses running in close proximity. PS fluid is flammable, so you're risking an engine fire if you pull it off.

Best solution for fog lights is to get some cheapies from Kragen and make them work.

Take care and enjoy your car!

    WOW

    She's a beauty!

If you want to have fog lights in the stock position, you have to make brackets.

I happen to have OEM brackets here that could be copied.

^ I was told "hot air moves faster" and that's what the shield is made for, but it doesn't affect driving or anything like that. You can try for a new bolt (or bolts) from a junkyard or something.

That car is absolutely beautiful. You have oem "license plate hole fillers" on the front bumper, don't you?

Yeah, the hole fillers are there.

I'm moving into my apartment this weekend, and it doesn't yet have internet, so I'm hoping to have new pictures on Monday...

Carotman, if you have pictures of the brackets, I'd like to see them if it's not too much of an issue.

there was - is a safety recall out on the gas filler necks, not sure if the '89 was included. Check with the dealer.

put some conditioner on the leather asap if the seats aren't blown.

The amp under the rear deck is probably shot. There's guys on here have them from the JY. For $20 you can take a shot. The speakers in the doors are non-standard sizes (thank you Bose), but with surgery new ones will go in.

i'm a fan of mounting new fogs in the grill (some cutting). IMO, the factory lights make the front end of the car

The cruise control also has some issues, it works until I hit a bump, and then won't work until I hit another bump...

Does anyone know if there are any owners manuals online? I couldn't find any... Mine didn't come with one.

My...second(?) coupe did this. I think it has to do with the wires/sensors on top of the brake/clutch pedal arms. Make sure the connection is nice and secure.

Wow. One of my brackets fell off today. I saw it and thought, meh, I'm sure brackets come with new lights. I'm not sure why, but I stopped and picked it up anyway. I felt kinda foolish dodging traffic to recover it but now I'm glad I did.

Wow! How is it that the leather isn't all shredded to crap? Please don't forget to condition it every 6 months. It's so rare to find them minty like that.
