    Insane Reliability

so my friend who used to own a 3gee (he traded it for a CRX HF with a D16A1) said that he ran 12oz of Turbo Blue in his A20A3 with no gas and it diddnt blow...not sure if i believe him lol thats insane, but does anyone else have any stories about their reliability? i mean i think 336,000 mi. on the original motor is pretty amazing.

    Re: Insane Reliability

I drove 200 miles from Fresno to the Bay Area to find that there was only a 0.2 quarts of oil in the crankcase. Car was fine. I drove another 200 with a faulty oil pump (lifters were ticking). I had to get home and a tow would have been more expensive than another car. The car drove the whole way without any complaint or issue. That cost me compression in the #4 cylinder and a lot of blue smoke under hard throttle, but it drove another couple thousand after that until I could arrange a replacement engine.

    Amazing little car...

    Re: Insane Reliability

my 3g was at 170 when it died and i beat the fucking shit out of it almost every day from when i got it at 150k, and the only reason it died was from a shitty trans and leaky head gasket, the guy who bought the engine said the machine shop he took in to said it was in perfect shape and if i would of thrown a new hg on it it would of gone another 200k miles or more lol

my parts car had 384k miles on it (engine was replaced at 370k from not pasing smog )

my acura legend had 225k miles on it and it still ran but was using alot of oil

my civics rings were bad at 180k

my 91 accord probably has around 300k miles or more and is still running awesome (knock on wood) valve seals are shot and the clutch is sliping but other then that cant bitch for that many miles

    1988 Honda Accord LX-i Coupe 123k miles.

I drove almost 10k with a snapped CV shaft (right; the left one had a broken seal). Not even Les Schwab could explain that one.

    Re: Insane Reliability

my old LX has a blown head gasket and i didn't even realize it until i had to smog it. it didn't have a lot of power on hills but i assumed that was cause it was carbed. otherwise it was fine

my LXi has 220 k and runs like a champ...

if you over rev the engine the high vacuum created can pull oil through the oil separator, if you set one up for high rpm you need to add a catch can to the pcv system. it creates enough vacuum to keep the pcv valve wide open, plus the crank spinning at high rpm creates a lot of oil mist. you need a windage tray for sustained high rpm operation also

    Re: Insane Reliability

i've got 243k so far. its on its 3rd tranny but the engine is pretty bulletproof. my current tranny probably has 220k or so... that was the lowest mileage 3gee i could find in the junk yard. all the rest were closer to 300k and one had like 320 or something crazy. pretty awesome.

    Re: Insane Reliability

I have seen 3Gs in the junkyard with as little as 150K (assuming the odometer was working) and others with as much as 350K. Mine has a "low" 135K and works fine (thanks for being EFI) passing smog tests with flying colors .

My Civic developed blue smoke (bad rings) at 175K... Now it is at 210K (new rings, rod bearings, and valve seals) and drives well, uses almost no gas and passes emissions without a problem.

I love Hondas... wtf awesome cars they are!!!
If it ain't broke... I fix it!

I found out not long ago that my spark plug wires are original. Like, never been changed. They have SUMITOMO 1987 stamped right on them. And they get 30+ miles per gallon.

My car sees 7k every day. I'd really hope your car is still running strong with 130k if mine is with over double the mileage.
