    Got a new Toy

    1988 Supra non turbo automatic.

I just couldnt pass this deal up, Its one of those rare chances that only happens to a few people. I know its not a 3g but hell atleast its the same year model as my hatch. I bought this car for 600$ at a local speed shop here in Alabama. They said that the engine had a spun main bearing and they just wanted it gone. They fired it up for me and the harmonic balancer started knocking to all hell. I agreed that the engine was blown and offered 600$. They took the money with greedy eyes and i went about my mary way.

Once i got home with the car (towed it on my tow truck) i laughed with triumph!! When i saw the front harmonic balancer wiggle i had immediatly known what had happened, I have seen it before. The front pully/harmonic balancer bolt worked loose and fell out allowing the pully to wobble about the place. So there ya go, 10 mins after getting it home i replaced the front harmonic balancer bolt, and drove it like i stole it.

a market value car of 4,000$ for 600$ = Epic WIN!!

Even at such a momumental win I am still poised to flip it real quick for an easy profit of 3g's, the 3k to be used to fund my 88 hatch track car. On the other hand finding a MKIII toyota supra in this condition for an affordable price is near impossible.

so here are my options I am considering (and please help me decide)
    1. sell it for an easy 3k profit
2.keep it, convert to 5spd, megasquirt it and turbo it. (which putting a standalone is a requirement of all cars that i own (except the wifes minivan)

    Pictures.

i'd sell it, but that's because i love 3g's... look at it this way, if you keep it you'll have to rob from your other project(s) to fund this one... sure it would be sweet when all is said and done but 3k can get you pretty far with the 3g.

Option to have a RWD car with some real potential for power? No question IMO.

    Re: Got a new Toy

LOL i know the money option is a no brainer but let me explain a little more about myself and what i do.

I flip cars all the time, I flip atleast 2 - 3 a month. In the last month ive made over 3k in flip money. I also work and repair cars on the side. so money for the race car is not as strung out as it seems. If you haven't noticed from the pictures I have TONS of cars. some are customer cars. About half and half are projects and flip cars.

    cars i currently own:
    2000 honda odyssey -wifes car,
    90 240sx -daily driver status,
    86 mazda rx7 -currently rebuilding engine/flip car.
88 rx7 turboII being rebuilt into a NASA spec circuit car.
86 na rx7 parts car to fix the other 86......
1965 nova- wifes car/under the knife to become a 11 sec drag car.
1987 s10 pickup - havent decided what to do with yet (possibly throw a v8 in it or something)
1988 memphis pearl blue 3g hatch -is isn daily driver status form as my class rules dictate it. however i have quite a few goodies going in it to change to an unlimited class i will share with you guys later.
1987 champaign 3g hatch - engine rebuilt going back in to become the new daily driver.

there are other cars in the yard one is my friends race car and the rest are customer cars. I turn in an out 3 -4 cars a weekend when im not in crunch time to get cars ready for a track event.

i get 1 -3 cars ready for flip a month. which sometimes they sell quick sometimes they dont.

The supra however fell in my lap, and i couldnt pass it up, I want to keep it and i want to sell it at the same time as the profit margin is extremely high.

knowing me i will probably sell it, and finish piecing together my turbo kit for the new engine going in the 88 3g hatch.

    Re: Got a new Toy

I had one but it was a turbo targa 5 speed in midnight blue. Id say its too much work to convert but I didnt do it. Id also say its too heavy of a car to have any real fun but that never stopped me. Id also want to warm you about alot of other things but I seem to find a better reason to keep it after each bad thing. Id guess id say keep it. enjoy it through the summer and after a while sell it if you desire. Its not like you can lose more then you have invested into it.

I sold mine to an older toyota tech that swapped the head, turbo and a few other parts. We hired a new kid at work years later and he comes in one day with moy car. Im like where did you get it. He said he bought it off some old guy who bought it off some kid who beat the hell out of it.

I had to tell him i babied the hell out of it and took excellent care of it. i guess I know how I rank in the eyes of old people.
