What are the tell-tale signs of water in the oil? I've seen oil leaks from my parents' old cars, and they stayed pretty uniform and pooled, same with my second coupe, but this car's oil will spread all over the place. It runs clear off of my driveway into my yard (and is killing my grass!). Oil has too high of a viscosity to move that far off the cement, but if it was watered down...?

watered down oil will be milky and light brown colored. Fairly certain you would be able to tell.

^^^ This... If you have water in the oil, take off your oil cap. You will have some baby poo on the bottom of it, and in around your valve cover. If it's nice and golden, or dark black, you don't have any water in it.

There's nothing noticeable about the cap or valve cover, and the oil drips straight black. Maybe because I used high mileage for once?

I'm going to look at another Misty Beige '88 coupe with 162k today. She's asking $1,000, but since there's rust (just on that metal strip under the tail lights), it needs "body work" (just the quarter panel) and "brake work" (probably just pads), she said she'd take $700-800.

    Re: Charlie's official update thread

    Some updates:
    - I went to an Audi Professional Driving School Saturday (5/22) for the program for Matt Ammon's memorial. It was pretty sweet. I took my aunt's 2004 Audi A4 S-Line Cabrio, and I learned how to set off the ABS, do a correct slalom, and emergency lane changes. After lunch, we did an autocross. My best time was 55 seconds. To put that in perspective: the Viper got 53 seconds, and the track Miata (fastest car of the day) got a low 49. Most people were in the 60's and 70's. I didn't hit a single cone all day, either. I'll post the official times once I get them.

I'm pretty sure I'm getting that coupe. I'll sell the one I have with the blades, but keep my stereo and armrest. With the extra money I'll have I'm going to buy some 08+ Fit Sport wheels, and hopefully Dave's (itzdave) springs and shocks.

I was ran off the road today (by my Spanish teacher, nonetheless) and "made friends with a red curb" as I described it to Mike:

I ended up getting some Simple Green and cleaning the sh*t out of the other three wheels (I'm keeping the one dirty in case I want to file a case, or just rub it in my teacher's face). All three ended up clean like this one (this one being the dirtiest, originally):

Noooo! Not those wheels! Hope it's not bent. It doesn't do any wobbly now does it? Is there any gash in it? (Hard to tell from the pics)

Sweet shit about the driving school man! Time to take up some autocross and get some srs parts for your car!

I think some Star Specs are in your future.

    Re: Charlie's official update thread

The wheel doesn't appear to be bent and there hasn't been any adverse effects, but the tires does look like is slowly going flat now. That rim has some serious curb rash now, though, but I think it was originally the right-rear wheel before a rotation, so it was already the worst.

The school was great! I can't believe how fun it was, and definitely way better that the streets. I really need to get signed up for an autocross around here, and get a helmet. Star Specs?

I should be picking up that coupe above on Tuesday for $350. She said she just wants it gone. It's becoming an "eye sore" for her. It just needed a battery to start.

I'm excited! I get to keep my wheels, stereo, and armrest! I'll just sell this car with the steelies, stereo, and regular console from that coupe for like $900. Woot.

    Re: Charlie's official update thread

Alright, if I buy that coupe for $350 and sell this one for $900-$1,000 I'll have $550-$650 extra to spend. I found a set of blue Tokiko shocks and struts from a third-gen Prelude on Craig's List for $250 obo. Should I get those along with a set of Fit Sport rims? Or spend the money on something else? I'd be able to sell my directionals and get an amount back as well.

So, I decided that the side trim wasn't worth keeping since it was falling off and all beat up, so I ripped them off. I'm still trying to buy that coupe, but my parents decided last minute to not loan me the money.

Well, I've always paid for my own cars, insurance, and phone, but I'll just get the money another way.

So, the beat up coupe is going to a Honda mechanic tomorrow for $900, and I get to keep my stereo, wheels, wipers, and console. He doesn't care. I'll have the other coupe by tonight, though!
