    damnit, cut springs help

k wel i decided to lower the rear of my car so i chop the springs a little, on the drivers side i cut 1 coil off and on the passenger side i cut 1 coil and a half, for some reason the car was seating uneven thats wy i cut them like that, well anyways the passenger side has no bounce to it at all, i think the strut is bottomed out cuase i can hear it hitting and it rides ruff on that side. i should have just cut 1 coil off the back, damnit this pisses me off!! what can i do? maybe the best thing to do is go get a stock rear spring. but i used the Tokico 1'' drop springs to work with, howm uch different is the stock rear springs compared to the tokicos. cutting 1 coil off the tokicos i would have to cut how much off the stock one?
i want to make the stock one the same height as the tokico so it will look right. dont want one side stock looking and other lowered,.

    thanx

You never ever want to cut your springs man. You completely ruin the ride. And now to fix it, you'll need new springs, and get ready for a bouncy ride!!

how's it sitting after you finished cutting? Does it sit level now? Is the passenger side spring tight in the perch? Push on both back sides of the car to figure out whats going. I doubt with a one inch drop spring and cutting that would make you bottom out. If you need extra lift and want to keep the spring you can get two stabilizers to put in there to give you a .5-1 inch lift. Maybe you didn't put it back together right. Dude I cut a shit load more off of mine and it never did that. Check to see how much suspension you really have. Of course it will ride bouncier with cut springs cause the cutting will increase the spring rate. You stock dampers will not be able to handle the increased rate. Buying better struts could cure this problem. But at the point your at I still had a decent ride so something sounds wrong. Take a digital pic or something and let me check it out. Again whats the car sitting like? If the rear is sitting pretty much even there is no way one side is bottoming out more than the other.
In the end...it doesn't even matter.

ok i just reread your post......you said no bounce at all......somethings up man cause I cut mine to the point I was tucking 15's in the fenders and it had plenty of room and suspension left. I'll go take digital pics today of the spring .....hit me up on IM later

yea i dont know whats up, maybe ican twist the spring around in the perch to get it to sit right. but the strut is compressed all the way on that side. i need to lift it a little so the strut has some bounce to it. were can i get the lift thingys. tommorow im gonna disassemlbe that side again and check everything but im sure tis all together good.

    thanx

k i figured it out, the metal dust sleeves when i was trin to get the spring off the shock, i got vise grips and clamed onto those and it beat out of shape a little. and when the spring compresses it doesnt go over the shock it just hits against the bottom of the shock cuz its not round were it can go flush over the shock wehn it compresses. sorry if i dont make any sense. well i guess i know what im gonna be doing tommorow.

do i really need those dust thingys? here it is in a pic, number 9

ok look take a pic of both sides and lemme look. I got pics of mine so give me your email and i'll show you what 2 3/4 of another coil cut off one side looks like. I still have a lot suspension and it tucks the 205/50s.....how low are you on that side now. I have to say after cutting almost what is 3 clean coils off the rear it still rides decent on the highway just not country roads. There just isn't a lot weight back in the back so you can get away with this....especially in my case cause i ditched the spare and everything and have hardly zero weight to support in the back. The front is a different story though cause of the weight of the engine and this is why you hear of some people putting konis and high brand struts on lowered cars in the front. A half coil should have dropped you about a half inch.....one whole inch seems nearly impossible so i'm speechless to how your car has dropped from a tad high to bottomed out. The stabilzers will correct it up to an inch with thicker harder ones and about a half inch with softer rubber inserts. That will raise it back up ( you can find these at autozone and pepboys) but I don't believe you need to do that. I think you should be sitting right....Show me some pics of the car so I can figure out whats up?....
In the end...it doesn't even matter.

i'm having a little trouble following you without a pic but something is DEFINELTY up with your setup cause you should have a SHIT load of suspension with your setup. It does sound like something is outta wack that won't let the strut compress. Why were you using vise grips?......That thing is easy to take apart without bending anything.....Hopefully you just bent the sleave or an easy 10 cent part or you can bend it back for free. Give me your email and i'll show you my car in the rear with plenty of suspension travel

if you clamped a vise grip to the metal strut shaft you may as well throw them away because you have just introduced a huge leak to the shaft and it will cut the shit out of the valves anyways.

I thought you werent supposed to use dust covers with lowering springs? I bet thats whats clanging when your car slams down.

i figured it out, i clamped vise grips onto the dust cove thingy and bent it our of shap a little, when the shock compresses the dust cover wont slide down over the shock like its soposed to so it its keeping ti from compressing. will be fixed tommorow, gotta make a trip to the parts car .
