    Aluminum Flywheel Poll

I am setting up a group buy for Aluminum Flywheels. I'm in contact with Aasco, Fidanza and a guy who builds rallycars and ships them around the world (Andy Vann).

Please only respond to this poll if you would seriously consider purchasing an aluminum flywheel for your Accord. The flywheels will most likely cost around $350 shipped to your door.

If you want to know how great an upgrade an aluminum flywheel is for your car, read this thread:

I think some websites might be good. Although fidanza and maybe aasco might be reputable.

    Here's some links:
    Fidanza
    Aasco

As far as info on Andy Vann goes, look him up on Google and you'll see a lot of info from his rally racing days.

    Still no grounds for decision.
Price would definitely be a good ground but quality is on par too.
How many ppl to make the group buy happen?
    Weights?
Downtime, oppss...these are aluminums so they have to make new ones, so time for production - shipping.

    More support for the a20....yeah

You can see the quality if somebody goes and gets my pics I put up of the flywheel. Superb quality. I have pics up on my website. I can also email them to be post here. The flywheel kicks ass and is the most cost effective mod in my opionion. Pros: Drop revs quicker, Less rotating mass = more power to drive wheels, less mass = longer crank bearing and main life, Removable lining so no need to resurface ....did I mention you can run from idle to redline in about a second......Cons: Price, It will not idle as smooth
In the end...it doesn't even matter.

Site- if you are the ones running this group buy, dont you think you could get a better price. who are you contacting for the flywheel. fidanza website was very fort coming with information (like there flywheel was only 7.5lbs) unlike aasco.

The aasco one weighs somewhere between 8-9 lbs.....closer to 8 but I never did count the ounces. Aasco is easier to deal with then Fidanza if you call them. Fidanza will give you an outrageous price quote but Aasco made me one from scratch for 400 dollars so depending how many people are on a group buy....350 doesnt' sound extremely bad.....50 dollars cheaper then going alone. But it doesn't look like this is going to come through cause not enough support. I don't get it.....people will drop 400 dollars on exhaust, header, and an intake but won't spend it on a flywheel? .....this thing tops all three of them mods put together.....I had a dcsports header with a dynomax exhaust and a CAI in the fender. I also had venom injectors, Cam, nology hot wires, and even a nitrous setup in my auto and I changed to the 5 spd and this flywheel brings ALIVE all them mods.....It makes the engine go from sluggish to peppy.....I guess there is no other way to explain it. I know justantohermike had a short mpeg clip of him reving his lightweight flywheel which weighs quite a bit more than the Aasco unit and that was awesome. Somebody should ask him to post the link again.....you will see what i'm talking about.
In the end...it doesn't even matter.

the flywheel is a pretty expensive mod and if u don't know how to install it urselft it will be expensive just to get it in. The flywheel is a mod that should be done AFTER ur basic mods. if u do the flywheel with out I/H/E ur not gonna feel jack. What i would say was the most important mod to get the full effect of the flywheel is the larger throttlebody.

LOL - I don't want to be faster than everybody. I just want to go fast, if you see what I mean. There will always be someone faster. I just want to have some fun while making my car more enjoyable to drive. Pretty much the first time in my life that I've had a hobby.

I'm not sure which is the best buy - that's kinda why I was posting this poll. I was hoping people would do some research and ask around in their own performance circles to get different opinions.

As far as the potential group buy for flywheels go, I'm gonna hold off for a while. Probably till after the first of the year. The group buy on carbon fiber hoods has taken a lot longer than I thought it would. It was a lot more work than I counted on, too. I'm gonna take a break from settin up group buys for a bit.

I will tell everyone this, though - Tom Fidanza told me they have eight 3rd gen Accord flywheels sittin on the shelf at Fidanza engineering. He's willing to get them to us at a deal with a group buy. He wants us to go through Nippon Power in FL.

Aasco will make 10 (maybe less if we work the deal) for us at $275 apiece (doesn't include shipping).

Like I said, I'm going to set this buy up after the first of the year. So if anyone is thinking you want a aluminum flywheel, start saving your $.

I really doubt if we would be able to get 10 buyers for flywheels. Maybe 5. We'll see.

can someone explain this further... so if you can rev to higher rpms faster... how is the speed to acceleration ratio changed... wouldnt it just rev to 6 grand and just shift if you had an auto... I dont understand how it works...

If you had an auto it wouldn't work at all cause you have a torque convertor. If you have a 5 spd. this change in weight on the end of the crankshaft gives you a major power advantage cause its right where the piston and connecting rods are doing there job.....that is to turn the crankshaft......and when you relieve the crankshaft of an extra 20 lbs then their work becomes easier = more power.
In the end...it doesn't even matter.

basically your flywheel weighs a shit load, i mean it's really heavy. the more weight you have the more power it takes to turn that weight, and the more revs you have the more power it takes. the reason honda put this heavy wheel on the car was because it is easier at the line to get going with less revs. face it, are cars were never ment to be a race car
