    new audiovox AX510

i thought i would post some progress on the install of the new audiovox ax 510 car alarm i'm putting in,for security reasons i'm not going to post some info, but other stuff i will
the harness for the shock sensor and the special dual color LED wasn't long enough so i ended up extending it. i don't believe in the slap it behind the dash with zip ties garbage.
if you are going to put in an alarm this complex,it takes time. everything in the new harness is soldered and heatshrunk. i extended the harness and added the connectors

one thing i hate about alarm installs is they always have a hole in the dash that looks like crap, for the LED. i was using a factory nissan security indicator, which worked well, but the new LED is a special dual color one. the factory indicator had an led that snapped into the back of it with a plug. this required me to make an aluminum adaptor, that epoxied into the housing.

i'm adding power door locks to this setup, so i modified a rear drivers side power window switch. it should fit nicely under the edge of the armrest.

ok a new project part of this, i am getting rid of he ugly levers on the floor in front of the drivers seat, so i need a solonoid for the hatch and the gas door,i already have the hatch one in,and it's been in for some time. i finally found a solonoid at the yard after searching about 50 cars. it was on an old buick granny mobile.
    solonoid after being modified

and the new switch location in the glovebox, this is the box i found at the yard,it's going to be painted black to match the new dash color. it's also going to be motorized,so the latch will disappear. no more latch.

the jig for drilling the switch holes

the switch housing will be painted black when i'm done

    Re: new audiovox AX510

yea i just wired the system for the power door locks,i decided to just put the switch in the center console, saves me running a lot of wires into the doors. plus i can mount the relays to the relay board with the rest of them. all i need to do is run two wires out, this runs to both actuators, and two wires from the switch. the other wire at the switch grounds. i wish it would quit raining so i could do something more then bench wiring.

    Re: new audiovox AX510

the gas door solonoid is in,i haven't tested it electrically yet, because the battery is out for the moment, but if i pull the solonoid it works mechanically. i figure if it can open the trunk on that big granny mobile, it can pop the gas door on the hatch. i figured out what to do with where the original hatch cable connects, after i remove it,i will get another solonoid to put in the hatch to pull on where the cable used to attach.i already have one to open the hatch by remote. i will put a hidden switch somewhere on the body and use 8 duracell batteries to operate that solonoid. thats my backup in case the battery is ever dead. completly independent of the cars electrical system. that way i can get rid of the hatch lock completly. and have no locks on the body anywhere.

sorry it's so dark, this is before i had to move it over another inch. i used stainless bolts and washers to fill in the unused holes.

    Re: new audiovox AX510

well i didn't get to test the solonoid, but i did make a really nice aluminum spacer for the window switch i modified for the door locks, too bad my camera batteries are dead. i'm going to put it on the flat part of the console where the e brake is. i needed to move it up so the wiring would clear. i had figured out all the measurements before hand and was doing it on the DRO, for some reason all my measurements were off,and i ended up fucking it all up. so i said screw it and fixed it by hand. now the switch fits in perfectly. go figure.sometimes you have to say screw the digital shit and use the force.

ok another six hours of wiring, and i give up for the day. more tomorrow.
    new fuse block is in

better pic of the solonoid that operates the gas door

i posted this because it's a good way to join a number of high current connections with large wires, you simply crimp ring connectors on the wires, put the proper size bolt through the ring connectors, and tighten it down. just make sure to use a nylock bolt because it needs to remain tight. after this tape it well with quality tape, tape in one direction, then the other. now you have a secure high current connection.

    Re: new audiovox AX510

yay!! i just figured out how to make the lights pop up my modifying a switch internally. i need to get a small double pole double throw electronic relay. basically you have to modify the small circuit board inside of a switch you have to cut one trace then solder wires to it and wire that through one set of normally closed contacts then you solder wire to two other contacts and solder those to contacts that close when the relay is energized. so when you power the relay the system thinks the manual switch is closed. the tiny lever switch in the switch is a single pole double throw switch.

ok since the weather won't cooperate with me,i brought one of the relay boards inside and finished wiring it. spahetti anyone? this is channel 2 ,3, 4 plus the door lock controls and the dome light control relay. the subharness for the other three relays is out of the car at the moment. there are two more boards like this also. i have a headache at the moment. strange thing is in all the years i've been doing this stuff,i never have made up circuit diagrams or written anything down. i keep it all upstairs. the entire board needs to unplug so i can install the carpet later also. .
