outragiouse fuel consumption

I own an 86 Accord Hatchback for two weeks now , it's the carburated model.
the carb needs rebuilding because it's leaking/sweating some fuel.
the car uses 45L for 250Km wich means 5.5 km/liter or 13 miles/galon.

I don't think the carb leaks are the main problem here .
I've checked the vacoom lines , there are no cracks and no lines missing.
the car has a bad exhaust smell , but with no smoke.

where do I start?

the car starts fine , and reeves ok to worm up the engine ,
but won't stop reeving until I touch the throttle to release the choke
because the reeving won't come down by itself .
after that the engine is reeving exelent and sounds quite good.

Make sure your choke on the carb is fully opening.

can you show a picture of the vacuum lines connected to the back of the carb near the firewall?
