    Question How do I recognize my ditributor?

    I've ordered the cap and rotor , but the cap doesn't match .
    ordered one like this (one square side)

    but mine looks more like this (completely round)

    even the bolt holes are not at the same distance.

    my Accord is an 86 Hatchback with carb and automatic transmision
    chassis number is JHMBA7320GC046754

    thanks

    That chassis number looks like it's from an 88-91 Prelude. Maybe someone has swapped the VIN tags? Also that is a Prelude dizzy cap.

    Re: How do I recognize my ditributor?

    I did a bit more digging around, that VIN number is right after all. The VIN numbers changed after '86.

    Here's your VIN decoded.

    J = Japan
    H = Honda
    M = Passenger car, built in Japan
    BA = Accord
    7 = 4 speed auto
    3 = 3 door
    2 = DX
    0 = check digit
    G = 1986
    C = Sayama, Saitama, Japan (Assembly Plant)
    046754 = serial number.

    But I can see where the store that sent you your part went wrong, after '86 all Preludes (up till the BB1 etc models) had VINs starting JHMBA. So they sent you the dizzy cap for the carbed '88-'91 Prelude.

    You have a carbed car but got an FI cap. Take the old cap with you when you buy to make sure it matches.
