Oh man, I saw Carotman post this the other day. Tried it on a CL and it worked like Magic! It was awesome!
not so painless, you can hurt your foot doing that. hammer ftw![]()
haha u have to read the writing 1st, watching just the video will make you wonder wtf is going on
I usually always separate the ball joint this way so as not ruin the boot with a picklefork and a hammer can sometimes take a while

damn, I'm really never going to hear the end of missing all these meets am I?
Anyway, Johnny-O showed me the pitman arm puller method, which I now swear by. I also picked up a pretty decent knock-off version of the oem Honda ball-joint separator from HarborFreight, which works OK.
The Pitman Arm: (thanks again Johnny)

Ball-Joint Separator Tool: (I bent the shit out of this on a ball-joint for my truck which was seized up worse than bad, but it did eventually pop it free)

Just another reason to abuse a craftsman 1/2" ratchet.

pitman arm puller > all other ways lol

yea beating on a 25 year old cast suspension just doesn't seem like a good idea. the pitman arm puller works great, I haven't found a Honda yet where it doesn't work.

I wonder if Harborfreight has any of those shitkicker shoes the guy in the video is wearing. Must get me a pair for my next front end tear apart.![]()
i have one from ebay and it's never bent but what did happen was the bolts that connect the middle piece sheared off, i just put in some new grade 10 bolts with locknuts and washers and it works good as new. mine has a big long handle on it though not like the h-f one.
i personally have never had an issue with mine, never torn a boot.

If you're worried about your 25 year old cast control arms, maybe you shouldn't be driving on them.
I only use Pitman tie-rod pullers on mine, it literally takes less than a minute and it's so easy.
But when you don't have the tool, I don't honestly believe the socket is going to be any more stress than a puller arm. It's just one quick motion.
I have a box full of bent wrenches and other self made tools for specific jobs. This is just an ingenius method of popping the lower balljoint using leverage. "The shadetree way."

^ this is the truth, but i don't know of a time when i DONT have my puller lol... i ride with a full set of tools for suspension, brakes, engine, etc... i could pull my head off and replace a head gasket on the go lol...

I still prefer using a hammer. 5-10 nice hard knocks on the cast iron isnt going to hurt anything.
