    Sickest3g se-i stock rebuild motor/suspension/5speed swap

Sickest3g se-i stock rebuild motor/suspension/5speed swap and more...

Alright fellows, this is the ride we're talking about on this tread. I documented my entire month of work on my accord for my 3geez homie's viewing and learning pleasure. Although i'm already done and back on the road i finally had the time to post what i did. My engine spun a rod bearing so i pulled a motor and rebuilt it from the inside out in my garage @ home. I replaced the rack and pinion, rebuilt the engine, ported and polished the head, did some motor mount modification, relocation of the battery and coolant resevor tank, replaced all fr. suspension bushings with polyurathane, switched rear sway bar from a vigor, powder coating, 5 speed swap, and a lil something here and there along the way of a 1 month long build. But since we are in the suspension sec then I'll begin with the those upgrades...For the rear, i swapped the swaybar out for the 92-94 acura vigor 16mm bar. the bushings from the vigor are necessary. Also the hole on the frame bushing bracket needs to be elongated in order for it to bolt up to the frame. the endlinks are from the vigor but you can use either one.

    Now to the front...

    Re: Sickest3g se-i stock rebuild motor/suspension/5speed swap

In the front I have the 7/8 se-i bar with polyurathane frame bushings and endlinks.

I also replaced all of the front suspension bushings with polyurathane and new balljoints and upper control arms. I even installed polyurathane bump stops in the front.

I even installed polyurathane bump stops in the front cause it was bending the tip of the upper control arm.

Btw the ignition coil had to be moved over a bit for to make room 4 the bump stop on the pass side. The driver side was clear.

I went a bit nuts with the urathane and filled all 4 new motor mounts with windshield urathane. Works like a charm.

You do know that the front mount is an oil filled mount right? So filling it with poly wont help it any.

you can use a rear mount up front with an 86-87 mount bracket that bolts on to the block, just fill it up with poly and it pwns the gas gas charged one i did a write up on how to switch a few years ago it should be somewhere on here

but great job so far man

    Re: Sickest3g se-i stock rebuild motor/suspension/5speed swap

Alright guys i'm back and picking up at the 5 speeds swap. But first I must thank nick (importdomestic) for the advice and encouragement about how easy it actually is to do. the stock auto ecu worked fine with it too. The only thing that I noticed which may or may not have anything to do with it is the throttle gets slightly stuck at various places and the gas pedal does not engage smoothly when the engine is on. Once its off the pedal moves smoothly. Also the ecu is telling me that there is something wrong with the tps (throttle position sensor). Anybody know if there is something else I need to change in order for the engine to run as if the car was originally a 5 speed?

I also took advantage of having everything off the car by cutting "1.5 inches off of the shifter although i wish I would have cut "2 but it looks and feels great.

I used a bolt with near matching diameter, grinded the ends to a cone shape but left enough threads so that i can use them to bite the inside of the pipe as i screwed the threads in both sides.

After putting the two pieces together I twisted to the right to close the gap.

Then tack welded them and sprayed primer to seal the deal.

I also put in a stage 2 F1 clutch kit.

    Re: Sickest3g se-i stock rebuild motor/suspension/5speed swap

On to the next one. I relocated the battery for a lower center of gravity and to make space for the intake.

I put a piece of rubber mat on top of the mounting plate for the battery to rest on to keep the bolts from wearing holes into the battery.

Consequently I had to also relocate the coolant overflow tank by running about 5 feet of hose, zip tied it to the fire wall and bolted it there too.

Aside from having to move the a/c hose over a bit in order to remove the battery it all worked out perfectly and is very secure.

Oh yeah...The rack and pinion, tie rod ends, lower and upper ball joints were replaced too. It wasn't anywhere near as hard to replace as I and many others thought it was gonna be. Stay tuned. There's more to come after these messages....

    Re: Sickest3g se-i stock rebuild motor/suspension/5speed swap

Well guys its time for the motor rebuild...first I'll begin by showing you the reason why I rebuilt. Then go on to show you what I did. I spun a bearing which had a horrific internal chattering sound. I rode with that sound for 3 months. As the sound got louder during the passing months i decided to park the car and get a donor engine and tranny before i ended up with a hole on the side of my block.

There wasnt any bearing left in the connecting rod (top) that went out, most of it was in the oil pan.

Re-seated the valves too. Note: This was my first port and polish so I didn't do the exhaust side mainly cause i ran out of the sanding/grinding bits.

    Head on and almost done.

    Re: Sickest3g se-i stock rebuild motor/suspension/5speed swap

And this is the end results...

I powder coated my wheels a year ago so I did the same to the valve cover and headers cause it last so long and stays looking good and cleans real easy. The cover color name is "blue ice explosion" classified as a flip flop color and the headers is high temp muffler gray. Im running NGK iridium plugs and I installed 244cc fuel injectors(170 stock) So the upcoming new mod is going to be an MSD w/a blaster coil and an adjustable air/fuel ratio controller piggyback. A friend of mine says he can chip my ECU...anyone know if its worth chipping or should I just do the OBD1 conversion. My not so distant future plans are to turbo charge so any pointers on which upgrade or changes i should make would be appreciated. Well boys that concludes the show. Thanks for tuning in.

Looking good. Must be nice to have it back up and running, and props for doing all the engine work yourself too.

As for ECU... OBD0 cannot really be "chipped" properly, best to save the money and convert to OBD1, especially if planning to boost in the future.

Right! I loved it the minute i laid eyes on it. It looks good on a pic but the pic doesn't do justice. In the sun it blings. You walk around it and it flips from dark plum blue to sparkly blue.

valve cover is sex great work on the car man,

any plans for a wire tuck? a more empty engine bay would make that valve cover pop even more
