Just heard back from spring works in Cali. They will make me a set of custom coil springs with a drop from OE 2 or 2.5" for $775.00. I have to send them a front and rear OE so they can use as a template. Price is steep. Thoughts? How low should I go if I decide to do this? I don't want to blow the struts as they are almost impossible to get.
You can potentially get a complete coil over set for 1k. BC will do custom, Gaz does 2gen Preludes, and I think Ceika does too, but their site is down. The rear on 2gen Accords and Preludes is the same.
I think I contacted BC and they said they need the car...I'll check again. I'd love a custom set of coilovers. Looks like we have the rears covered just need fronts....
Your car looks great. That's the look I am attempting to get.
I reached out to both company's. I will keep you posted.
I mailed BC last night too since your post reminded me, but no reply today. I could potentially order shocks for another car, just with custom rates and valving, but I don't know if they would do it (the rears are similar to early BMW, at least so far as Koni inserts go)
Not doubting but just clarifying...The rear strut setup is the same on the 2 gen accord (1983 in my case) and the 2nd gen lude (83-87)? Gaz replied that they couldn't verify the rear struts were the same. I received replies back from Gaz and Ceika. Both asked for photos of the front / rear suspension. I replied with the Honda Parts now diagrams, photos of the struts and hubs (F/R) and photos of my car. We will see where this goes.
There may be diffs in the earlier couple years, but the 84/5 are def the same. In fact my tokico blues are for the accord because the brake line bracket was never right. And I know the Koni inserts use the same part.
I just don't have first hand knowledge of the 82/3. I may have an old helms of those years at work.
Have you checked Rockauto? They are really good about giving dimensions.

Off topic question but do 15x8 wheels fit in a 85 Accord SEI
With or without rub?

I'm running the 2g Prelude Koni inserts in the back of my 84. They fit the 82-83 just fine as well. The difference is probably in the valving, as the Accords always were quite a bit softer than the Preludes.
I would not bother getting custom springs made. Get some coilover sleeves, and then you can run standard size race springs. Those kind of springs can usually be purchased in damn near any spring-rate and length and they're not too expensive either.
Also, if you look around the internet a bit, you'll find that people overseas run front suspension from cars like the 240SX, Corolla, MR2, etc. You can at least use the tops hats from those by re-drilling the shock towers. The big difference between most MacStruts on the Accords vs those cars is how the shock bottom mounts to the knuckle. I imagine you could cut off the brackets, and make some kind of sleeve to fit them in the Accord knuckle.
Also if you have the dimensions of the Koni inserts for these cars, I bet you could find something else that fits. I would even try to find an insert that is a bit shorter, it just means cutting off the top of the OE strut housing a bit more.
