    questions on carb to fi

ok ive got a few questions about converting from a carb to fi.

heres the scenario.. i found an engine with a carb and i have an engine that is FI... i like the FI so i wanted to know what i would have to do to convert the carb.

could i just take off the FI intake manifold and put it on the carb engine?
what other additions would i need?

if your saying that the engine in your car right now is fuel injected and u just bought a carbed motor then all you gotta do is take off all the carb setup on the motor and just swap the block and head into your car everything just bolts right up

i'm not 100% sure on A20s, but I think all you need to swap from the EFI motor to the carb motor is the intake manifold, alternator, dizzy (probably with that little bit that goes over the cam shaft too that the dizzy bolts to), engine loom, and probably the exhaust manifolds

i think he has a fuel injected car and he wants to put in a carb motor, but keep the fuel injection. my guess is the motor currently in his car is dead

Dizzy means distributor, try google. Only say that so you can get a better idea rather then someone here explaining it. or look it up on youtube lol

If memory serves, the short block will work, but the head is different.

the only thing defferent in the head is the cam and the carb engine has 9.1 compression pistons

Interesting. I wonder why there are different part numbers between the FI and carb.

the head is different as far as I know because of the dizzy mount, i think you would need a FI head to be able to mount the correct dizzy

i did the reverse swap...put a fuel injected engine on a carb car..and the distributor mounted just fine...everything worked.

ok.... well heres a major hope killer.... as far as internals go on an engine i am to unexpierienced to do anything YET. and lost already knows that im trying to learn and this is the main reason i bought the car. to learn and customize my way. luckily for me i havent bought the engine yet because i would have been screwed out of money due to lack of knowledge, expieince and help.

Re: questions on carb to fi

well if u can find a a20a1 or a2 both are carbed and is a direct swap over to the a3 block from an lxi the cams i havent noticed a diffrence because i still have the fi cam in with my carb and runs fine with the diffrent compression the main diffrences are the radiator, header, cpu, dizzy i think thats all from what ive noticed but could need more im trying to go fi so its easyer to find cheap performance ups its just way expecive and hard to find stuff for the a20a1-2.
