Lightbulb How to re-connect chime, courtesy lights...

I bought back my mom's '89 lx from my uncle who fixed it up...i've come to notice theres some things missin or going wrong. First is the front doors courtesy lights don't light up, i start the car with the door open and the panel shows all doors are closed. and the chime isn't connected, so it also doesn't remind me for the lights. I would really like to have all this connected. Can any one help me??

1st thing id check is the door switches, they usually rust and need a good sand or a clean then they work? does your interior light work when you open the door?? if not this will be the 1st thing to check

Lol at least your problem is an easy to diagnose one. My courtesy lights dont work, but everything else does...

Check the door switches, but if its all 4 i dont know... theres fuses for the chime, but i dont know what else its connected to. Is it only the front door courtesy lights that dont work?

It's only the front courtesy lights that don't light. The rear doors work fine. I've heard that the warning chime and front courtesy lights are both on the same wire. I just don't know where that connection would be to fix that problem. I think it was disconnected when the cd player was installed because having the driver side door open would drain the battery?

There is a big grey plastic box under the stereo. Behind it is a wire connector. I suspect yours is unplugged. Unplugging that box is the easy way to keep the key chime from driving you nuts, but there are consequences. Check that first.

yep, like the corner marker lights not functioning and I believe the oil pressure light wire goes through it, it's supposed to be the box that makes it flash with a quick drop in pressure so you notice it.

ok the grey box has to be it! because it just hangs, left side isn't attached. I found the plug hangin. my only question is wheres it go? If it plugs into an obvious spot then theres something replacing it. I have a pic, i'll load it up next time.

Don't ask me how, but the chime itself is connected to dash illumination.

that's to remind you to turn off your lights, if the key is out, and you open the door it beeps if the illumination is on.

Point is theres no beeping at all. Plus, I start car with door open , and the display doesn't show the door open.

if the display doesn't show the door open either the door connector is bad or the display is bad, does the dome light turn on? is there a plug plugged into the back of that box? the connector you were looking at is for an aftermarket stereo. or something aftermarket, it's not a factory plug.

Yes Dome light comes turns on. And theres a plug plugged into the back of the grey box, and then theres just that one plug hanging. The Pioneer cd player was in stalled a few years ago when my cousin owned it. I don't know who exactly installed the stereo. And the rear speakers are supposed to be 'NEW Pioneers'...but theres no sound at all coming out of them.

It looks like the box is plugged in, which eliminates the easy answer. Sorry.

does your oil pressure light come on when you first turn on the key, then go out with the engine running? do your corner markers alternate with the front turn signals? i have an extra box if you want to try it,
