Talking NEW 85 hatch from Melbourne Australia

    Hi guys,

    Came accross this website recently..
Im keen to gain some knowledge about the car i have recently purchased.

I currently own a 1997 Mazda Rx7 (JDM) which is too loud and too expensive to run as a daily driver.

So i bought this 1985 ET1 accord off an old friend..(will post pics when i get home)

I dont know anything about the car to be quite honest.
I am mechanically minded and have recently found that my Accord has a cacked head. due to overheating..

My plans for the car are to complete an engine swap.
not sure on what engine will fit.. im not looking for power but i would prefer an EFI engine..

something that will bolt in with minimal customisation is what im after..
    any ideas?

    Thanks in advance

    Hi, welcome to the site!

If you're looking for a bit of power, the JDM B20A from the 2g Prelude, and 3g Accord practically drops right into that car. I managed to fit one into my 84 Accord without much of an issue. I imagine they shouldn't be too hard to find there. I dunno if you have the injected A20 engines there or not, but they will aslo drop in, and I imagine they would be quite a bit cheaper than a B20A, and should give you a good few extra hp. I know the B20A is good for 140-160hp depending on which one you get.

    Thanks for the heads up...

Im pretty sure we have both types of engines here in Aus..

but again im not looking for power..
Did you need to modify engined mounts etc in order to get the B20A in?

oh and pics will come later tonight when i get home

Ah, not looking for more power. Well then an injected A20 would be your best swap. I'm not sure how much power the ET makes, but the A20 should have a bit more, a should yield a considerable bump in fuel economy and reliability.

The A20 will drop right in, bolt up to your current transmission, and use all your existing mounts, as the block is externally identical to the ET.

The B20A required using the ES side mount and front mount, and the rear mount from a B20A-equipped 2g Prelude. Its a little crooked, but not enough to worry, barely visible. Slotting the holes in the mount brackets will fix that.

Lost of work to do yet...

The battery i got for free from my brother at BMW retail price $650

the floor mats are supposedly worth $200 Mercedes lol

I ended up buying the stockies that are on the car now for $200 with brand new tyres

Funny thing is i bought the car for $100 AUD :P

i guess the next and most immediate plan is to source an A20A4 from my local Honda wrecker.... fingers crossed..

    -2ndGenGuy-
Would the EFI conversion require more than just a straight bolt in?
    for example; fuel pump..exhaust etc???

    Im open to suggestions/feedback..

custom wireing will need to be done, will have to add in a wire to the cluster for VSS sensor, will need the computer, fuel pump and run a fuel return line. 2gg will know the rest im sure he was getting his car ready for EFI then went with bike carbs instead

Look for MustardCat's thread. He put an A20A3 in his 84 Accord, that swap will be pretty much everything you need to do to your car. The issue is not installing the engine, it's basically the wiring for the fuel injection, running a return feed line back to the tank, and swapping to an EFI pump.
