    wh1skea's '86 LXi hatchback thread

Ok, so I'm new here. I've been trolling around for a while using this info to help keep my stepdad's car running for the last year. Well, since my 93 Saturn took a crap a few months ago , my stepdad gave me his 86 LXi hatch when he got a different car and I've decided to fix it up some. Car is graphite grey with grey interior and has 388k miles on it.

So far what I've done since I've taken possession of it is:

*replace tires (cheap Douglas tires from Wal-Mart for now)
    *replace valve cover gasket
    *remove hubcaps
*replaced dist. cap and plug wires
*rattlecanned the bumpers with black Krylon Fusion
    (they were faded, almost sunbleached)
    *left half-shaft replaced

    Just basic stuff.

    Problems needing addressing:

    *bumpers are out-of-whack
    *missing some wheel studs
*oil leak (Next target: Front main seal)
*can't set cruise control (green indicator lights up though)
    *passenger window slow going up
    *rust under right tail light
*sometimes idles up and down bewteen 1200-2000 rpm
    *ecu code 12 (EGR)
*missing interior trim pieces such as the plastic that goes over the front pillars.

Most of these I've found fixes for by searching the forum, just haven't gotten around to fixing them or haven't had the cash to.

So far the only planned, yet non-essential, projects I have on deck besides the above mentioned fixes are to do a full LED conversion complete with doing clear lenses and getting some lowering springs.

So far I've made the lenses for the bumper. Nothing fancy, just clear lexan cut to shape. Next I plan on getting my hands of a spare set of corner and tail lenses to take apart and remove the colored plastic from.

(Pictures of the ugly little thing coming later)

    OK, time for pics.

Pic of the car....Like I said earlier, fugly, needing work, but paid for.

The reason for starting with the clear bumper lenses

And the clears traced out on lexan. Traced the good lens.

I have the lenses cut out now, just need to bust out the Blackberry (explanation for the bad pics) and get some pics later. I'll also be taking more pics this weekend for this thread.

Also, with the tradition of giving cars female names, I've named it "Rita", after Rita Hayworth.

Re: wh1skea's '86 LXi hatchback thread

The lexan cost me less than it would have cost for the CRX lenses (although, I didn't know they would interchange). The lexan was being thrown away at work, so if was free.

In related news, I just sold my 75 Dodge 3/4 ton. Only got $250 for is since the trans is locked up, but thats $250 I can spend on the Hondas. Half will go to the 94 to buy things like a timing belt component set and an ignition switch. The other $125 will go towards the hatch........now what to buy? lol.

Re: wh1skea's '86 LXi hatchback thread

I ran it through a carwash when my stepdad gave it to me 2 months ago. She looked good. Just with the oil leak she has, it doesn't take long for her to get nasty. Probably go get the car washed this weekend.

Got the dashlights working too. Gonna replace the oil filter base gasket this weekend.

Re: wh1skea's '86 LXi hatchback thread

Got the oil filter base gasket changed. Started the car up, and found that my front seal is leaking :\ . As for carwash, it'll have to wait til next week. Between all my bills, just don't have the cash for it. As for detailing the interior, I plan on it, but I can only go so far with it. The carpet is torn at the footpad on the drivers side, I don't have the plastic interior pieces over the doors. Major work is going to be started after the first of the year. Can't afford it until then, with having to buy Christmas gifts for the kids, bills, and what not.

I'd love to go grab parts out of a jy, but I work once of those 9-5 (well, 8-5) M-F jobs and don't really know of any that are open on Saturday Anyways, got the clears finished (pics included), swapped the shift knob for the knob in my 94 Accord. Also including pics of the 94.

Naw, someone tried to Bondo the fuel door since it was damaged whenever the car was wrecked by a previous owner.

As for the light housings, I already have plans to paint them black ......just have to wait for it to warm up now :/

Noticed these on a Civic the other day. Think I'm gonna try and get a set for the hatchy. I know they are OEM for 03-05 Civics, but OEM Honda is part of the allure for me.

Removed the rear bumper with hopes of getting it lined up good Saturday. Would have finished it if the piece between the lights and the bumper wasn't rusted as bad as it was.

    PICS:

Also got stickers in from statik on Tuesday and put them on today:

That's just the bumper. It should be very easy to replace. Stickers look great, by the way.
