"The Highwind"-- I don't know who smokes more, me or the car.

Six months ago I turned in my 07' wuss blue Fit a.k.a. "Phil" thanks to a recent divorce. That's when I found an 1989 Accord LX-i coupe for sale for $1600. It had a hole cut in the cam cover, but no after-market cam, painted stock intake, and a cat-back fart cannon patched with diet Dr. Pepper cans. It was sitting on four bald tires, one filled with fix-a-flat to the point where it felt like a damn centerfuge in 1st and 2nd. The rims were from a Nissan, someone had run painter's tape around them and painted the rest black to give it a "chrome lip". The windshield had a "Pornstar" graphic across it that had anodyzed into the glass. Seriously. It has been painted white but it's original stock color was a dark red, someone had meticulously repainted the engine bay, and there is very little rust, all of which is cosmetic. I have since then repaired these issues plus put in a new starter, distributor, alternator, clutch, and Konigs with some Y-rated tires. I put the bestest cheapest Eibach springs with KYC shocks. Of course I did the brakes and spark plugs blah blah but who cares about OEM...save for when you're stranded at the side of the road.

I really like this car, there is a lot to do with it still. The body seems lighter than a lor of cars I have driven and I keep getting visions of total engine replacement, as I'm sure everyone on this site has. I'm glad to have found a place like this with people of a like mind. There's nothing like blowing the doors off some rich a-hole, or just racing with your buddies, few things in life replace that pleasure. I have been following the threads on this site for the last few months and have found many of them to be very helpful. There will be many questions in the future, but I am confident you guys will help this noob along.

If you paid $1,600 for that, please tell me it had under 100k on it.

hey he really likes the car, many of us have much more money into their cars then what they are worth, at least he traded the fit for something better

can I guess why the fit was named Phil, light blue, a fit and a wuss? if there ever was a queer car it's that fit at least you traded it for a much better car, even in the condition it was in. normally they get womens names. I could see a prius named phil too , did it like to hang around smart cars? keep working on it, get it all fixed up, and you'll really enjoy having that car. You saved one that had been badly abused

Thanks all for the welcome! To answer your first question it has 220,000 miles on it. I bought it at 207,000 lol. I have owned it for almost 6 months now. I drive 140 miles on it 5 days a week to attend college. "Why not go online?"-internships. $1,600 isn't a good price, but it was that or a chevy beretta that was in my price and mechanical range. It may be a s-box, but it's a rust-free, nice handling s-box with a clean engine bay (save for some really bad wiring). So far I'm only at about $2,400 total investment for a reliable car. Besides any woman I now meet will have to love me for me and not my Ronald Reagan power brown interior, tape deck with only one speaker working, wired with lamp cord (really) bad-a$$, compound-curve-covered 80's mobile. Also at 6'3'' it's a PIA to find anything that I actually fit in, the coupe has a much larger cabin than it's civic and prelude counterparts. The fit might have been the gayest car in the honda line, my ex-wife named it, but for a kidney-bean shaped 1.5 liter it was surprisingly quick in 2nd through 4th. Paddle shifters take the fun out of shifting though. It would consistently outrun my buddy's 00' Jetta 1.8 turbo which surprised the hell out of me. I caught it mounting a smart car one time...I think their bastard child is the Mazda 2.

I'm alway's stumped when I'm driving it, thinking this thing was built when I was in kindergarten, and it's way more solid than any domestic I have ever owned.

You're not imagining it. These were some of the finest Hondas ever built. It's nearly impossible to kill them and after driving them for a short while, you wouldn't want to anyway.
