Not many players at 195-60 14 anymore

I need to buy a new set of tires, and my favorite Dunlops are not offered any more. Dunlop and Yoko offer a summer tire, but I need all-season, or at least good wet performance. I can use another car when it snows.

According to Tire Rack, my choices are:

    BF Goodrich g-Force Supersport
    Michelin Pilot Exalto
    Fuzion HRi
    General Altimax HP
    Kumho Ecsta LX Platinum
    Sumitomo HTR 200
    Firestone Firehawk

Anybody have direct experience with any of these, or know of any others?

    Thx.

I've got a set of Bridgestone Potenza RE960AS that have been pretty decent year round. They do list them on Tire Rack's website. They're like a 400 treadwear, so nothing too sticky. But that's probably one of the better treadwear ratings I could find in those tire sizes without going to the Star Specs of those Yoko ES100s.

Honestly, I've been driving on summer tires in the rain (Potenza RE-11s) and many people I know have been driving on Star Specs (offered in your size as well) through heavy downpours (Seattle area, rains all year round). The wet traction on most summer tires is pretty damn good. I will admit, the RE-11s don't have the best hydroplane resistance, so standing water can be an issue. But wet pavement still has amazing traction. Haven't had any hydroplaning issues with the 960s though. They seem to plow through puddles, and rutted, water-filled pavement like they aren't there.

14 inch tires period are getting more scarce, I had to wait two days to get some for a Ranger truck, wound up with Uniroyal Tiger Paws

The firehawks are great, just dont expect to stick good with em if youre doing any performance summer driving...they tend to never get sticky. Although wet handling and wear is top notch.

I also have Bridgestone Potenza RE960AS from Tirerack and so far they've been some of the best tires i've owned. They're pricey now though, back when I bought them from Tirerack they were $47 a piece.

I'm running Hankook Mileage Plus II, P185/65-R14 (UTQG 620/A/B) all seasons on steelies. They're not high performance tires but damn good DD tires IMO. I replaced the 13" steelies and the Hankook Mileage Plus 185/70-R13's just over a year ago. Those tires lasted 155,000 Kms (96,000 miles). They are long lasting with a softer compound than most high mileage rated tires. They are decent in the rain and in the greasy snow we get here.

I've found that the the Falken Ziex 912 offers a decent compromise of cost and performance. They're still available in 14": http://www.vulcantire.com

I had the same problem when i was shopping for 205/60/14's. Every place i called had 1 brand, and they were garbage, non-rated tires. I found one place with some Kenda tires?? never heard oft hem but they were 120mph rated and had a warranty of 30,000. Pretty agressive tread pattern and great traction so far.

the 14's are still around, mainly because of the new minicars coming out, and even 13's are coming back same reason, but for these new micro cars. as more and more of these tiny cars end up on the road, you'll probably start seeing better selection. a lot of those cars you just can't go over 14 on them. the trend is going from giant SUV's which are now pretty much dead in the market, to very small cars

I would go with Falken that's been my brand. I got the 502s now, but they don't come in 195 60 R14...

i tried the fuzion HRi tires, they didnt seem that bad despite the customer reviews on tire rack. These tires are really noisy, Handel better in the snow than in the rain IMO. Right now i have a set of Falkens Ziex, could only get 195 wide as the tire shop owner did not want to pu the 205's on. Its been a few months, id have to say they handle really well in the rain, have yet to test in the snow

I have the Bridgestone RE960AS on my Civic and they're great tires! The wet performance is quite acceptable too.

My girlfriend has the Ziex 912 on here car and they're also a good compromise but I wouldn't call these All season tires.

I wouldn't know what all-season is...I never had the pleasure to drive in snow. NY = too young to drive. FL = One time in my life; what is that white stuff fallling from the sky MA = car, what car, I'm a poor student. CA = Now I found wheels, but what is this snow you speak off??? LOL...

I had the Ziex 512s on my poor Hatchie, and now Ziex 502s on the coupe, I wouldn't know anything about high speed rating, I can't get out of 4th.

The only reason I say theyre not the best performance tires, is they never got sticky on all the mountain runs I did...but i got like 50k out of the tires after 3 trips to the dragstrip and 5 mountain runs.

I just bought me some Nexen N3000's and I love them. I chose them over the Falken 912's.

They don't have the N3000 in 14's, but their CP641's look good.
