    Re: new to 3geez

    Welcome.

I'm not a Accord guru by any means, but I have built many of my cars for SCCA and drag to include:

x2 FC3S's, AE86, SAAB 9-3, SRT-4, Talon TSI, EG, WRX, and one GSR. I usually do my builds around the same.

    As for the performance:
1.) Its an auto. Swapping the transmission would be the highest priority for me if I was you.

2.) Upgrading for performance engine wise would depend on how far you wanted to go and your budget. If this car is your daily driver I wouldn't recommend doing a FI swap and slapping a turbo on it.

Your mileage is more than likely like mine. I'm at 250k miles on the original motor. Focus on grabbing another block and redoing the rings, pistons, seals, gaskets, etc etc. I picked up my kit for a little under $200. Since it would be a spare motor which should be cheap anyhow, you can take your time with it and make sure its done right. Sure it will still be OEM spec but it will be more efficient with all new parts, not to mention make your car more reliable.

I haven't been able to do much looking into the heads on these cars due to laziness.

After a overhaul of the engine I would then recommend moving onto your suspension. Suspension is what makes or breaks a car.

Once again with that high mileage I am guessing all your factory suspension bushings are the originals. If thats the case they are more than likely shot. I would recommend replacing those after the engine rebuild.

If you can't afford coil overs and don't feel like saving then grab a decent set of springs with a decent spring rate. (Note I was running 6k front springs and 8k rear springs in my AE86. I have been unable to find a decent set of springs for the 3rd gen yet. This is why I would recommend a coil over setup since you would at least have the adjust ability.) Then grab some Koni adjustables.

I was reading about the rear sway bar upgrade from the Vigor I believe it was. Might as well do that while you are at it. I would really recommend going with coil overs to be honest. Its better in the long run, trust me. Springs and adjustable struts might please you in the beginning but if your like me and can't leave anything alone they won't be enough. Just make sure you get camber plates. I haven't looked into coil overs for mine yet since I'm still redoing half the engine right now due to leaks. I know that KSports come with camber plates, however, whenever I put TEINs on my FC I ended up having to purchase them separately.

There is more than enough write ups on here on doing a bigger front brake conversion plus rear discs. Get some stainless steel lines while your at it since your old lines are more than likely on their last limb as well.

An important part but if this isn't in order really. Rims are an expensive investment. I can't really advise what size/offset to go with, without knowing what you are doing. However, a good set of tires always makes a noticeable difference.

I saved the engine for last since well its a 2.0 carb'd engine. Unless you go turbo your power will always be limited so its better to build up everything else to try and counter balance the lack of power. That was a hard lesson I learned with my AE86 after many engine setups while trying to achieve unrealistic N/A 4 cylinder power.

You can switch over to fuel injected but if your staying N/A (which is what I recommend for a DD) then I would suggest staying with a carb setup. You can always get a nice Weber carb and have Delta redo your cam. Mild head work then your basic header back exhaust.

Sorry if this was a big ramble, but I'm drunk and just got done changing my alternator. Anyhow, welcome once again and good luck in your adventures.

Oh and I overlooked the transmission upgrades once it is a manual. If you make it that far hit me up or someone else and I'm sure you can get pointed in the right direction.

lol My bad dude, drunk rambling. I do that to my friend every time he calls me wondering what he should do to his cars. Then again I have every B16/18 camshaft profile saved on my computer just so I could compare them all.

Just trying to get more proactive in these forums and help some people out.

Anyhow, about to deploy in about 5 months and pick up a S2K or a Miata, I hope. Rebuilding my Accord just to have a nice DD and maybe take it out to some SCCA events next year when I get back I hope.

I gotta redo this block myself. Still looking for my spare to do. Just lost the seal by the crank pulley.
Oh then while changing my oil pan gasket (which I thought was the cause and was partially) I broke my exhaust in two some how....
