    EricW's Motor build thread

Just some pics now. I will up date with the specs and details later.

The pistons. Custom made diamond pistons. The tops of the pistons are ceramic coated and the sides are moly coated.

The block. Bored to 3.285 in / 83.439 mm

The Pistons, rods, and crank installed. The rods are eagle H beams.

The only snag i ran into. I had a rod bolt that never reached the proper torque of 28 ft-lbs and ended up looking like this. Called arp for a replacement and they said that they had some problems with these bolts on the eagle rods a few years ago. I've had the rods sitting for a couple of years. The one replacement bolt was $8.

    Re: EricW's Motor build thread

Well i got the water and oil pumps installed. I'm debating if i want to install the crank scraper that I have. It will need to be trimmed to fit. I'm going to try to get some pics tomorrow if i get to work on it. I have to diagnose an electrical issue with my wifes truck first.

All of the rest torqued fine. If any of the rest would have a problem it would have showed when i was torquing them down.

What are you using for head studs? I had the ARP head studs for the miata on mine and they fit perfectly.

    Re: EricW's Motor build thread

Well since I started it I've bought a house and had children, but it is still in progress. I need to trim the crank scraper to fit the rods and that will pretty much finish the bottom end. When I get my garage cleaned up a little so I have room to work i'll get it finished.

    Re: EricW's Motor build thread

    A little update.

I'm still working on the motor, slowly. The crank scraper is in and i've just got to put the oil pan on to finish the bottom end. I've got the old motor pulled out of the car. I pulled the ARP head studs out of the old motor and put them on the new motor. I need to check the ported and polished head and get the cam that i got from JohnnyO ready to go in. Then the motor will be done. I'll try and get some pictures before i button everything up.
