    Car won't start

I turn the key and all i hear is two clicks, no cranking. The battery and oil lights go dim while the brake light comes on solid. I checked the main grounds(negative/positive on battery, alternator) and i can't think of anything else. I went to autozone and they told me the car would start even if the brakes were missing and that it had nothing to do with the brakes. Everything is connected as far as i can see and the car started an hour ago..
i dont know what to do

    Re: Car won't start

I was working on the alternator prior to this because the battery light had been on for a couple of days and the car finally died. I got a friend to jumpstart it again and then i took it to the closest shop and told the mechanic about the battery problem. He took off the negative battery cable while the car was running and the car stopped running but started again when he placed the cable back on. He told me the alternator had to be replaced. I took out the alternator then took it to autozone and it passed their test, then to oreillys where it failed the test and then to napa where it passed again. I decided to change the ground wire to the alternator because the connection was a little rusted. I put the alternator back in place with everything, the car wouldn't start and then i posted the thread.

Ahhh, try seriously hardcore mounting the battery clamps onto the posts. Happened to my car, although my experiences seem to be unrelated.

Try whacking the starter while a friend turns the key. If it works, you need a starter. If not, buy or borrow a multimeter and measure the voltage between the positive and negative terminals of the battery. If it is low (<12V), you'll need to figure out why it's not charging. It can be that your battery cables are too loose or need replacing. Your alternator could also be bad.

The Honda manual is available here. Chapter 24 is the Engine Electrical section and it includes some diagnostic tests for the battery, alternator, etc.
